"We were a group of 10 - friends since college, now in our early 70s. The property was a delight - warm, welcoming, outdoor and indoor group dining options, a very well stocked kitchen. Lovely pool area. Responsive host. It's location is picture perfect amidst the charming towns and beaches in the Basque country. The two homes on the property provide lots of space to spread out. Enjoyed meals made by a local chef (recommended by the host). We have traveled together as a group to several destinations and agreed this was at the top of the list. Would highly recommended this Ascain property!."

"We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Trabenia. After getting settled we went on a short walk around the beautiful area the came back to the hotel for a nice anperitif at the bar. We then an amazing meal at the restaurant. Will definitely be back someday. "

"Lovely hotel in the French countryside. Spacious room, very comfortable bed. Excellent shower. Appreciated the balcony outside the room plus seated areas in the garden and patio with loungers for relaxing. Very tasty breakfast. Free onsite parking. Extremely helpful staff (apart from bar manager). Good onsite restaurant. Only 2km into town where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Good base for exploring the general area and close to canoeing and train de la Rhune. Couple of negatives. When I book a double room I expect to get a double bed not two singles pushed together - that's a twin room. Shower had no soapdish / shelf so nowhere to put products."

"Roomier than pictures make it seem. It was blistering hot and there is no AC so sleeping was uncomfortable several nights. A fan for each bedroom would be helpful as is did cool off after midnight. The property owners were very responsive and helpful."
