We are Gypsy Hair Guru, a traveling hair and makeup team that specializes in weddings. Urstad accomadated our late arrival and our early departure. "The host family was incredibly helpful and easy to communicate with. They thought of everything when it comes to hosting a family with littles! Including a high chair to Johnson’s kids soap in the bathtub was impressive. Our family fit perfectly in their house. Everyone had their own space and privacy but the way the entire house is set up, we never felt like we were separated because of the open floor plan on the main level with the lofted space upstairs. We truly appreciated the set of 2 outdoor tables with comfortable chairs and umbrellas to fit our family. We spent a lot of time there eating meals, admiring the view, and watching/listening to the sights and sounds in a peaceful setting. Our toddlers enjoyed playing in the bedroom with the bunk beds and reading together. We were impressed with the access and quantity of bath towels, garbage bags, shampoo/conditioner…. I know it sounds simple, but it’s much appreciated! Also, knowing there was access to the use of a washer and a dryer was awesome, but the host family even had detergent available. Very considerate! Our family loved the easy access to the lake and the use of the dock. We took full advantage of having the lily pad. We would highly recommend this location to anyone!"

"I'm not a fussy traveler and understand that budget motels are basic, but this one was a bit of a stretch. Positives - comfortable bed, strong shower, Wi-fi worked fine, working fridge and microwave in the room as advertised, and quiet for the most part. That part of Iowa feels safe in general so I never felt unsafe as a woman traveling alone. The not great parts - My first impression when checking in was someone demanding a refund because they found old food in their bed. When I got into my room there were no bathroom linens at all and I had to go back to the front desk to ask for them. Several times I returned to find linens missing and not replaced, like a washcloth or all my towels, and I had to go ask for replacements. The back door is supposed to lock with a key card but was duct taped open. Something that looked like dog food was lying all over the back foyer and no one cleaned it up for the 5 days I was there. One day there were bags of trash piled up outside the rear door. My trash wasn't emptied the entire 5 days, I had to ask for a new trash bag and take it out myself, and the desk attendant seemed bothered. There was a breakfast but it was only bread products. Just coffee in the breakfast area, no coffee maker in the room, It appears there is a large family living in the hotel and a couple of mornings it looked like they used the breakfast area as a personal kitchen. I won't be staying here again but if you need something really cheap it will cover basic needs."
