"On arrival had to carry cases up to the first floor, no lift no staff to help, first bedroom dirty and had no mirror. We were given another room still not very clean, shower had hardly any pressure and mould around the silicon. We were told there was a restaurant when in-fact it was more like a bar/ cafe. There was a coach party at the hotel and when we went down for breakfast they had left sometime before, so although there was a lot of breakfast food on the buffet heating plates it had dried out and fried eggs hard.
The receptionist at one time apologized for the attitude of one of the members of staff. Probably one of the worst hotel's we have stopped at. There was a owner did ring us later in the day and gave us a 20%,discount for which we were thankful"
"Easy to find as located on the main road through Strathy. This is a small b&b adjoining a small bar - both run by the owners. Sufficient parking at the front of the property. Room was immaculate with a lovely ensuite.
Breakfast needed to be preordered which wasn’t an issue for us.
Lovely breakfast included all freshly prepared.
Hosts very accommodating."
"We booked several hotels around the NC500 route, and I have to say, from online pictures, this is the one I was most dubious of, but I am happy to say that it has been the best one we've stayed in so far.
The view from the front deck and restaurant are absolutely stunning. The pictures online do not dp it justice. The room was well kept, clean, and tidy. It was a little on the small side, but perfect for the one night we stayed.
For breakfast we asked for vegan, it was no issue, and really tasty. We even had vegan haggis. I've never eaten haggis before, vegan or otherwise, and was pleasantly surprised to discover how delicious it was.
I definitely recommend this hotel if you are traveling the NC500."
"Since the TV show 'A River Somewhere' in 1997 I have wanted to visit this hotel!
For that reason I loved it. The staff were friendly, the food was excellent, parking is plentiful and the scenery magnificent. Lochs are all around with a real history of successful catches! However, I was incredibly sad to see this historic hotel, in this stunning scenery struggling in these current times. Having been a popular resort since 1886 I feel it should be supported and resurrected into 'the place to go' once again. I don't understand why the Scots aren't clambering to reignite a passion for a place with such history in such a unique situation. It's a place where you really can switch off from the world and reconnect with nature. I would recommend to everyone to visit, take your time, drive carefully, look around and someone, for goodness sake, come up with a way to keep this landmark alive!"
"The water in the shower was far too hot. There was a sign warning of hot water, but it was actually too hot to stand under, and i am an adult. There is no way you could have put a child in the shower. Apart from that, it is what you would expect from a Premier Inn. "
"Room and bathroom were small but clean. Staff was very, very helpful and kind. Beds were very comfortable. Hotel is old, but has character. The breakfast was very good and generous."
