I had an excellent experience a the Clerk and Well on my recent London visit. The hotel has 10 rooms above a lovely little old world London public house and restaurant. While they were buzzing with activity and atmosphere, the employees were prompt in greeting me and checking me in. I am currently recovering from an ankle injury, and the staff was very kind in helping me get my bags up the stairs to my room.
The entrance to the stairwell for the bedrooms has a separate street door, so you needn’t come through the pub when you get in. Clerkenwell is a somewhat busy thoroughfare, but the rooms building has clearly upgraded it’s insulation (this is supposedly one of the oldest public houses in London) because I did not notice any street noise at all in the room. The bedroom was beautiful decorated, as shown in the photos, without a comfortable, large bed; air-conditioning; a wall-mounted smart tv; and a mini-fridge. The windows have a sheer white blind, as well as tie-back blackout drapes if you prefer to sleep in a darker room.
The bathroom was spacious and well-appointed, particularly for a UK hotel. The fixtures have classic style to fit the hotel’s aesthetic, but the water pressure is excellent and with a precise temperature knob (I was on the third floor, so you can be sure of this).
The hotel management was very accommodating, from bringing up an ice bucket on request to allowing me to store luggage downstairs between my checkout and my train departure. On that note, the location is very good, with a short walk to transport all around central London, and a short ride from King’s Cross.
I was only there for a night, so I didn’t have a chance to try the restaurant, but the bar was a great place to drink and chat. Overall, a very positive experience. I will certainly make this a new go-to when visiting London in future!
