We had the most awful bedroom and my friends paid the same amount and their room was bigger , brighter . Felt like army barracks , thoroughly disappointed

I liked being able to have a hot bath. I prefer a bath to a shower. It suits me being beside the A68 - long journey north <-> south. I found the internet use very unreliable. Even downstairs where I was told it would work - that turned out to be only in the restaurant or standing at the foot of the stairs!

Food was fabulous - breakfast superb and great dinners! Only slight suggestion - skylight in Room #19 very dirty - would have been great it is was clean. But that is just a minor element in what was overall a wonderful stay! Thank you!

Quiet, friendly old road house. The staff were helpful and made you feel welcomed. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. Would come back again. If you have time St. Cuthbert’s Way hike is close by and is a beautiful walk along the river, especially in May.

A charming little hotel with excellent service, brilliant staff and superb food! Dinner and breakfast were first class. The room was a little bit tired but from looking at the photos a lot of the other rooms have obviously had an upgrade. Would definitely use again.

We have to say, that there were a few minor things, as in we wanted a twin room and initially got a king room. I don't know his name but the whole team were so lovely, responded quickly in providing complimentary drinks even when we hadn't complained. We thought that your team were exceptional.. thank you

The building is historic and has a nice ambiance. Our room was small but sufficient. My dinner (meat pie) was delicious.

To say it's 4 star is a bit much probably struggling to get workers big crack in the bath some lights didn't work don't expect WiFi in your room it says it's wired who brings a wire with them !!!! Still a nice place to stay

Great overnight stay, lovely autumn days
Nice hotel, pleasant and helpful staff, was quite busy. Tasty meals. Unfortunately check out wasn't so good, nobody about and when found tried to charge the full amount although I had paid in advance via Hotels.com. Hotels.com are going to resolve with the hotel for me.

Nice clean friendly place and clearly very popular with the locals as the restaurant was very busy. Although they seemed slightly under staffed, the staff there were very friendly and helpful.

Had a one night stay here while walking in the area. A warm welcome from Billy the owner ensured we had an enjoyable stay. Room was lovely and clean, food was excellent, and could not fault the service from the young waiting staff.

Not a bad stay but could have been better.
The hotel has seen a lot of improvements since our last stay and it is obviously a work in progress. The room was very good, the bathroom decent. Our reception was very good with helpful staff. The evening meal was okay as well but the staff were very dour. The set up for the restrictions was well thought out and reassuring. Breakfast was poor with every item burnt or overcooked to the point of being inedible. I didn’t raise this as no staff came to see how we were getting on and with a long journey ahead I didn’t have time to chase them.
