Rustic-Modern 1BR Lakeside Cottage for up to 5.

Relax in our 600 sq ft remodeled cabin in the Indian head region of Northern Wisconsin. This rustic-modern cabin has a 15' x 23' foot great room with a 15' ceiling and lots of windows overlooking Axehandle Lake. The kitchen is equipped with a full-sized stove, refrigerator, and microwave hood, and fully stocked kitchen ware. The quaint 12' x 14' bedroom has a queen sized bed, along with a twin over full bunk bed that can accommodate up to 5 individuals. The bathroom has a 36" shower, vintage sink vanity, and washer and dryer. If you enjoy an architectural look, with high ceilings, a mixture of oak and galvanized metal siding, and fresh white trim, then this is the place for you. The best part of the cottage is the 9' x 14' screened porch to enjoy the outdoors, listening to the wind whistling in the tall pine trees and looking over the lake below. AC has been added for cooling on those hot days as well!

Non-motorized boats are available (canoe, 2 kayaks, and row boat) to explore the 86 acre lake that is clear and great for fishing or swimming. Life jackets and paddles/oars are provided. Or just sit down on the new dock and fish off shore if you prefer using our vintage aluminum, webbed lawn chairs. In the evening relax by the fire pit, roasting s'mores, or inside playing games, watching movies (flat-screen Google TV with limited channels, DVD, and ability to link to your streaming services) or doing puzzles for a remote but relaxing vacation away from the everyday grind. Wifi is available. Note, we have it furnished and decorated as our vacation get-a-way, so not just the bare rental minimums you might find elsewhere! We are happy to share our family retreat with you. Note - no smoking allowed!

Great cabin!

Our 5th trip up and they get better and better! The new dock is wonderful and we spent a lot of time watching the otter, fox, eagle, loon, and many different birds. Always clean, comfortable, and enjoyable. A great cabin!

Great cabin by the lake

We've been to this cabin either 6 or 7 times over the last few years and it just gets better and better. The owners have thoughtfully done upgrades to the dock, steps to the water and a host of other improvements to numerous to mention. It's quiet, comfy, clean, and the lake is perfect. It's our go to spot up north.

Great Place to Stay

This is the second year we have stayed at this property. It is awesome! Located on Axhandle Lake, it is peaceful and relaxing. The cabin is so comfortable and well maintained.. We highly recommend it.

A peaceful weekend on the lake

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The space was clean & cozy, and I spent hours reading in the screened in porch. We took the row boat out a few times to enjoy the beautiful lake and went hiking at the state park nearby. I’d definitely stay here again!

Family reunion on the lake

My husband and I have a cabin on Axehandle lake and we were grateful to be able to rent the Frey family cabin for my mother and three of her siblings to stay for a week! Everyone had a wonderful time and they were very comfortable in the lovely cottage.

Sweet place, quiet lake

We loved our stay at the Frey Family cabin. The space was practical and comfortable. Everyone had spaces to sleep comfortably and the kitchen was clean and easy to utilize. The side porch was also a nice place to spend time. The lake was quiet and peaceful.

Relaxing getaway!!

We were so excited to arrive at this property, my husband & I take a week off every year for our anniversary & find a little cabin to stay at. This place met & exceeded expectations! So cute, exactly as listed & the lake, wildlife & scenery were wonderful. We heard Barred owls outside our bedroom window @ night & enjoyed watching the birds & squirrels play through the trees. It rained most of our stay, but we were cozy & warm inside. We played cards, took naps & really got a chance to disconnect from work & stress. We will absolutely be back! This is a beautiful place with a well cared for, homey little cabin to get away from it all. Thank you Laura for sharing your vacation spot with us!!!

Great Weekend Getaway

We love, love, loved to our stay at this cabin! It was quiet, the lake was beautiful, and the place is super cute. The only change I would make is dumping the lockbox for a keypad on the door. It was a little tricky getting in but once we got it, it was fine. You can see the loving care that has been invested in this property. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.

Super comfy cabin on a beautiful, quiet lake near New Auburn, WI. The cabin is well appointed, has everything you would need, and is always clean. This is our 3rd trip up and we are scheduled to go back in October. A true gem!

This rental is AMAZING! So clean, stocked and adorable. Felt like a home away from home. It is in a great location, on a quiet lake. So many spaces to enjoy: the fire-pit, the screen porch, the boats/lake/dock, the picnic table, etc... Laura is great at communicating. Can't wait to return!
