New Forest cliff top apartment with distant view of the Needles

Come and stay in our fantastic refurbished apartment on the clifftop in beautiful Barton-on-Sea. We've named our apartment 'Stones Throw' as it is just a stones' throw from stunning Barton Beach which overlooks the Isle of Wight to the east and Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Bay to the west.

What's more it's on the doorstep of the New Forest National Park so you can enjoy both coast and countryside during your stay without having to travel very far at all. Within a half hour drive you can visit picturesque Lymington with its maritime history, Hurst Spit and Castle, historic Christchurch and numerous beautiful destinations in the Forest with its freely roaming ponies and abundant wildlife and well as a great selection of stunning beaches. You could even venture across the Solent on a day trip to the Isle of Wight from nearby Lymington. If you want to stay put you can enjoy a delicious lunch at the Beachcomber Cafe just over the road or spend your time swimming or just relaxing on Barton Beach.

Our apartment is ground floor and has double doors leading onto a patio and guests have use of the communal garden which looks out to sea. The main living area has a modern open plan kitchen, a dining table with four chairs, sofa bed and arm chair, plus TV. You can see the famous Needles off the Isle of Wight from the lounge window. The bedroom is a good size with a double bed and wardrobe and there's a bright and fresh modern bathroom with a double sized shower.

We do accept well behaved pets so if you want to bring them there is a £22 per pet fee (max of 2).

Your hosts Ian and Jill look forward to welcoming you to Stones Throw soon.

*Please note due to some work to repair the car park wall, the communal car park is likely to be out of use until the 8th September 2025. However you can park on many of the surrounding roads for free.

Barton visit

Beautifully clean, smelt lovely throughout, comfy bed, fresh cosy linen/ duvet. Heating very good. All kitchen ware spot on. Thank you for a lovely stay. In the write up with Vrbo ( when you click on bedroom photo) it says to bring your own bedding.. but thankfully didn’t have to.

Great location and apartment

We only stayed for 2 nights but could not of picked a better location to stay. Apartment was clean and very well equipped and the hosts left some milk so we could have a cuppa on arrival. The cliff top is literally 20metres away with plenty of walks available overlooking the Isle of Wight . We would happily return and stay again.

A little Gem

We loved staying here. Everything was perfect for us & the dog. The apartment was spotlessly clean & had everything we needed. There’s so many great walks nearby & the views are amazing. We found plenty of places to eat & we could take Hunni too. Would highly recommend a stay here.

Weekend Away

Great weekend at Stones Throw, just the perfect location for what we wanted to do during our stay in Barton. A lovely touch was the pint of milk in the fridge so we were able to have a cuppa after our journey😊😊 Looking forward to making a return visit to Stones Throw.

Super property in a very convenient location. It was clean and comfortable. TV remote took a bit of getting used to but just needs patience. Overall a nice property and very comfortable. BeachComber restaurant across the road is family run and serves 'to die for' breakfasts. Service is excellent.

Excellent location

Really impressed with the property. Owners answered question on parking promptly and we had no issues. More spacious than I had anticipated, really clean and had everything needed for a short stay. Great for a stay with our 2 dogs as the communal garden was right outside our door and beach as in the details was 5 min from the door. Barton-on-Sea is a little gem which we had never been to but would go again. Weather was also kind to us which helps.

Good for an introduction to the area

Ideal for what we needed. Didn't use the garden seats as grass wasn't cut. Disappointed that the restaurants were closed for 2 consecutive nights but a good base for exploring the usual local attractions. Kitchenware very basic - would take more of our own for future visits, but good overall.

2 nights away

We thought the accommodation was fine inside, but the surrounding area was very drab and depressing. Would not go back to Barton on Sea ever !!! Had a trip out to Mudeford and Christchurch which were both charming places.

Good base with sea views

We stayed a week. It is true that you can see The Needles from the living room. The apartment is clean and well maintained. It is less than 100 yards to cliff top seats with panoramic views out to the Isle of Wight with the Beachcomber restaurant right by. A great base for a New Forest Holiday. We visited Bucklers Hard and also had an exhilirating time when we rented e-bikes for a day to explore the coastal path from Keyhaven to Lymington, from a nearby company called Jaunt-ebikes

Our trip to Barton-on-sea

The property was clean, tidy and homely. Care was taken to offer the welcome, bedding, milk/Tea and coffee available. All the basics were to hand; pots, cutlery, plates, glasses, microwave, chopping board and cleaning essentials. The area is lovely. We knew the area, but it was still a great experience being over the road from the sea front. We had lunch one day at the beachcomber. Everything was as expected and our few days break was thoroughly enjoyed by us all.

Lovely apartment by the sea 'Stones Throw' the right name!

The property is in a fantastic location - very clean - had everything we needed. Would have liked a full length mirror and the parking was tight. We had an issue with that which was quickly resolved by the owners. Would recommend as the location is perfect - near to the front and the town of New Milton has everything on hand. Some of the restaurants not open Mondays and Tuesdays so we found it a little difficult to find somewhere to eat but found The Globe very good service and value on the Monday and treated ourselves to Pebble Beach opposite on our last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Our first visit.

Initial impression was very good. All clean and ready to go. Only one small criticism. The mattress protector had a stain on it. Fortunately, I brought my own. Well equipped apartment. Cleaner needs to empty the vacuum more often. As a cleaner myself, I would never have left it in the state I found it.

Great base to explore the area

We stayed 2 nights. Booking and check-in couldnt have been easier. The apartment is in a great location and had everything we needed for our short stay. It was clean and tidy, with good heating and hot water. The shower was powerful, and the bed was comfy. We were able to watch our own Amazon and Netflix on the tv via the Google tv if you do this just remember to log out of your accounts on the tv before you leave. The wifi was decent. There's a good cafe and shop just over the road for essentials. The owner had left a pint of milk in the fridge which was welcome after a drive down from London. From here we did car trips to Bournemouth, Sandbanks, Hingistbury Head, and took the Sandbanks ferry over to Isle of Purbeck for Studland and the Blue Pool. If you're taking dogs, it's the perfect base, but be mindful the main door opens onto the road and you don't want your furry friend doing a runner when the door is opened. The garden isnt secure, which we knew, but our dogs need 4 or 5 walks daily anyway so not an issue. Traffic noise wasnt a problem despite being next to the main road, which is generally quiet. We couldnt get a parking space at the flats one night, but not a big deal as theres free road parking very nearby. If we had reason to go back to Barton we would stay here. It's budget friendly and well situated and felt like a home away from home.

Not the Best

Key to property does not work properly, very fiddling , time consuming to unlock, key & lock need sorting, if there was a fire you would end up going through a window rather than fiddle with key to try & get out through doors. We had to phone owner on arrival who got her friend to help us with key in doors & he struggled. There is no privacy, curtains very poor & dirty, needs blinds. Windows had cobwebs along the top, dirty hand marks on doors, stuff under bed, dirty oven racks. Have photos of cobwebs & dirty windows. Building is noisy, car parking bad. Not sure Covid is an excuse to be told not available til 5pm, to give cleaner a chance to clean, obviously not cleaned properly, no bed linen, no towels. Would not recommend.

Great base for Dorset and New Forest

This was our 2nd stay since March 2025 as it is the perfect base for us to explore Dorset and the New Forest with our 2 dogs. Booking easy and comms with the host are straight forward and timely. and importantly, in an area that has lots of properties that I would say are expensive (I'm in London!), the price is decent for what you get. The apartment is a good size, comfortable, modern, and has pretty much everything you will need (bring your own towels). The host kindly supplied a pint of milk which is very welcomed, along with tea/coffee/sugar, cooking oil and salt/pepper. Good oven and ceramic hob, toaster and filter coffee maker. Ample hot water and heating if you need it, which you control. Good wi-fi and TV with all the usual channels which can access your Netflix and Amazon accounts too (just remember to log out). The TV has USB port if you wanted to play a movie from a flash drive. Good hot shower. Didn't use the washing machine/tumble but might be handy for those staying for longer than we did. Barton-on-Sea is lovely, low-key and quiet by evening. Great places to walk the dogs, and handy cafe and small shop just over the road. We managed to get parking on the premises on all but one of the days, but on-road parking is nearby and you can see your car. The apartment is on the main road, but the area is so quiet you wouldn't notice - if you take your dog just be mindful it doesn't make a run for it when you open the door. Highly recommend!
