Nice old pub building in the centre of the small town. Down stairs arras were very nice with a cosy and traditional atmosphere.
On checking in was advised kitchen was closed for 2 of the 3 nights. Breakfast (American pancakes) was very poor.
Room was ok but tired around the edges. Very few power points and signs of a long term leak from shower which is always off putting. A REALLY noisy AC/ chiller unit below the bedroom window was pretty annoying
Not a bad place, but at £145 a night i expected more.
We had a lovely weekend stay here with our dog. The staff were very welcoming, the hotel lovely and clean with a bit of character. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and enjoyed the food and good service.
A great hotel with friendly helpfull staff.
I stayed in the mews accomadation just across the road from the main hotel, it was clean although a little dated compared to some rooms I have stayed in.
The evening meal and breakfast were very good, again served by helpful staff keen to please.
Enjoyable stay in this old hotel in great location which has been sympathetically modernised while retaining its character - wished we had booked for more than one night. Helpful staff.
Lovely cosy lounge, food good, room perfect. Would definitely return and would highly recommend. It's a gorgeous village/town, in the stunning moors. WOW!!
This is a Grade 2 listed building and it is definately quirky. We had a king bed on the top floor and the floors were uneven and walls had very few straight lines. To get to room 12 you have to go up lots of stairs so if you have heavy luggage you might want to request a lower floor. The staff were all lovely and helpful and the meals we had there were excellent. There is public parking just around the corner.
Hotel ok- room small but very clean and had everything we needed. My main problem with the hotel was the food- we ate there 2 nights out of our 3. First time I ordered fish pie and it was not very nice at all in fact I left half of it which is unlike me. What fish there was was mushy and stuck to the sides of the dish. Second time Peri Peri chicken breast which I couldn’t finish as it was pink in places. I mentioned it to the waitress who agreed and said she would speak to the chef. No one came back to me about it.

Disliked: Staff & service, room comfort
Very Disappointing
I had a very disappointing experience at the White Hart. We did have a pleasant check in experience and a nice meal (we chose to eat here for ease) and even though the room was VERY small, my fiancée and I were only really using the room to sleep in so we were okay with it. Upon check-out however, shocking customer service ruined our experience. I had made a genuine mistake and made the reservation on the app for one, rather than two and when I checked out, I was charged an extra £30 - an amount that made the total cost of the room unreasonable. The “manager” (I didn’t get her name, but with what sounded like an Eastern European accent) flatly refused to listen to my explanation that it was a simple mistake, passively aggressively saying “oh, another person making a mistake”, claiming that the £30 was for an extra breakfast….that we weren’t even staying for!! Given the very small room, the refusal to listen to reason and that we weren’t even staying for breakfast, charging an extra £30 when we had even spent money to eat in the hotel for dinner was absolutely shocking. We went back inside the hotel and ordered food to take away just to try and justify the added cost. The “manager” should be embarrassed at her treatment of guests and hotel ownership should rethink a blanket policy when faced with common sense and customers who have already paid them significant money to dine there. I guess the customer isn’t always right. Avoid.
Situated in Moretonhampstead (not Newton Abbot) The White Hart is ideally located to enjoy stunning north Dartmoor and the wider rural Devon.
The hotel is superbly furnished and decorated. Friendly and helpful staff add to the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
Very dog friendly (so important for us)
A great family long weekend. two teenagers with a twin and us with a double. Lovely spot, excellent food and nice rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff, plus a public bar and pool room. Friendly locals in the public bar and playing pool. Had a great time.
The atmosphere was so relaxed and the public areas so warm and comfortable with very welcoming staff. Oh that real log fire! Miriam even carried my case up the 2 floors when we arrived.
It's good you can get there by bus.
looked at the reviews and decided to book the hotel ... the address stated Newton Abbot but its in the middle of Dartmoor ... it's on a busy road, grade 11 listed so no up to date double glazing so the noise from the road was bad. I didn't realise it was a doggy hotel ! stains on carpet & marked furniture in need of a total gutting . My room was a superior and my sisters a standard my sisters room was much better standard than mine although she couldn't shower properly as you had to wash your hair each time you showered as it was overhead fixed head. And her room was very hot and tiny. Parking off site and it was payable . If I knew this hotel was so far away I could have book a far better one with attached parking and a wonderful outlook ... shame 9.4 on the reviews must be doggy owners heaven . The Staff were outstanding top marks.
We really enjoyed our stay. The staff are friendly and really helpful. We had a very nice evening meal and the breakfast was delicious.
Rooms are comfortable. Nice to see that dogs were welcome too.
Would definitely recommend if you are exploring Dartmoor.
Very friendly helpful staff however the plug sockets in my room only worked depending on the configuration of the lights being switched on. Only hot water from the basin tap in the bathroom. My colleague had no hot water for a shower.
