Barker's Island Inn Resort

6/10 Okay

"I have stayed at Barker's Island Inn dozens of times over the past 20+ years. It has a great location on the bay that I value because I love to fish in the area with my boat. The bar and restaurant were good except there is no breakfast served weekdays unlike years past. The staff were helpful but were thin in numbers. The room we stayed in looked just like it did 20 years ago with zero improvements. Bath hardware should have been replaced decades ago--it sucks. Same carpeting and noisy HVAC system too . The beds were ok but the pillows must have been from a college dorm room. Very uncomfortable. There is an empty corner with a floor lamp and no chair---what?? We stayed two nights and staff did not make up beds between nights, just cleaned bathroom. That was a minor issue. The breakfast was the same style we saw during Covid: dry cereal, breakfast bars, coffee, pitcher of OJ, yogurt and cellophane wrapped mystery muffins. What a joke! The swimming pool and hot tub were nice but shows needed rehab. Pool showers had faucets that were broken. Get the picture? It is clear to a longtime user like me, that Barker's is in need of massive room refurbishment. Nothing has changed in over 20 yrs--nothing! Unless you are a boater, I recommend a different hotel."

Cobblestone Inn & Suites at UW Stout Downtown Menomonie

10/10 Excellent

"I had a suite for a week to relax and visit with my son who lives in Menomonie. Several of the days were spent doing just that, relaxing and visiting. The homey atmosphere was just what I needed! We were going to fix a meal one evening and the stove top didn’t work. With just one person there, we weren’t able to have it checked out. I forgot to remind them of that when I checked out. I only had breakfast one morning , but it was good! I would highly recommend this Cobblestone. Thanks for a relaxing week!"

GrandStay Residential Suites - Eau Claire

"The room was the bright spot. Spacious, clean, over the top happy with the room. Front desk person needs to work in a basement on a computer away from people. Was not pleasant AT ALL. Almost acted like we were intruding on his time. Bordered on being rude. The breakfast was crap. Eggs were like a hockey puck and cold. Sausage was cold. Biscuits and gravy were hot and good. No effort made to put a good breakfast together. Cheap and no pride in this area of service. Plan to eat breakfast out not this crap. The area seemed very convenient and safe. Obviously they use a water softener because the water had a film when rinsing off. This is ok BUT it made the bottom of the shower super slick. No mats down so I’ll predict a lawsuit from someone slipping and falling in the shower if this is not addressed. It’s a damn shame, it really is. They give you a room to die for, outstanding in every way but they fail in just about every other area. The breakfast is the last thing on top of the mind and what a shame. If breakfast and staff is not important to you then this would be a great place for you to choose. I know we WILL stay here again in a heartbeat BUT will lower our expectations on breakfast and eat out. And we will make sure to not be offended by the front desk person who was terrible."

"The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The bar and patio were nice. The room decor was whimsical and you can check out records to play in your room. The bed was very comfortable. I would have given it 4 stars is not for the bathroom design. The toilet and shower are in one room with a barn door and right off the bedroom. If you don't close the door, you are staring at the toilet from bed. The sink is around the corner from the bed, between the bedroom and the sitting area. So, there is no privacy will using the sink and you must walk through the bedroom to get to the sink. Not a good design choice."
