"The property was nice, and the staff was friendly, I was however charged $41.00 for a breakfast that was supposed to be covered by a credit with the hotel and did not find out I was charged for it until it showed up on my bank statement"

"I had an absolutely terrible experience at The New Yorker Hotel. After my stay, I was hit with a $500 "smoking fee" despite the fact that I do not smoke and did not smoke in the room. This is a blatant cash grab and a complete lack of integrity on the hotel's part. When I tried to resolve this on-site, the lack of professionalism was staggering. I requested to speak with a manager and was simply handed a business card. I have reached out multiple times to the contact provided, but they have completely ignored my messages. I also asked for a manual check (instead of automated sensor) to check for smoke and was denied. Attempting to dispute the charge has been a nightmare because of their refusal to communicate. Warning to future travelers: Stay elsewhere. There are plenty of hotels in New York that won't slap you with fraudulent fees and then hide behind a non-responsive management team. This was a dishonest and stressful experience from start to finish."

Also, the property texted me and asked if I needed anything, and I requested a mini fridge. The reply was that it would be delivered to my room, but it never was. It’s not a problem if there wasn’t one available, the problem was the unkept promise (and failure to follow-up). Finally, there was an unexpected charge to my credit card that I am waiting to have resolved. I expect it will be fixed, but again a property like this should not have such problems. I have stayed at a great many hotels in Manhattan and I have rarely had such a litany of issues, though admittedly in this case none were that big a deal."
