Degnish Farmhouse - SWWU

In a glorious setting, this spacious retreat enjoys a games room and garden with hot tub and barbecue - perfect for summer evenings.. Degnish Farmhouse sits proudly alone within a 1100-acre working hill farm at the western end of Loch Melfort and has spectacular panoramic sea and adjacent island views. Surrounded by abundant wildlife, including otters, seals and birdlife and with easy access to golf, horse riding, sea kayaking, fishing and sailing, this comfortable south-facing detached holiday property offers a perfect retreat in a glorious setting.
The house has been lovingly re-built to a very good standard, with underfloor heating, double glazing and an emphasis on the wonderful views.
Ideally based for exploring the west coast, there are plenty of ferry trips nearby to Mull, Arran, Gigha, Islay, Colonsay or Tiree. The bustling harbour town of Oban, known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, is a scenic drive north and is home to an array of shops and restaurants. Inveraray Castle, historic Kilmartin Glen, and the Crinan Canal make for wonderful days out. Ardmaddy Castle and Gardens are 3½ miles over the hill, and can be accessed on foot, by 4-wheel drive or via the road to Seil Island. Guests enjoy free access to the gardens and are also welcome to use the estate’s tennis court. Small motor boats can be hired at Ardmaddy. Free fishing can also be arranged on the estate’s well-stocked hill loch.
There are plenty of hill and forest trails for mountain biking and leisurely walks, or visit one of the magnificent local gardens. Whilst there is the farm and miles of coastline to explore, there is also an enclosed garden and covered outdoor BBQ area ensuring the safety of younger children whilst allowing the grown-ups to enjoy an al-fresco lunch. Lovely property, v comfortable, no through road...perfect! As a result little in the way of local amenities. But that was exactly what we were looking for. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

If you are prepared to trek the 5 miles (25minutes) along a very rough track from the main road, you will be rewarded with the most spectacular setting. In the evenings we watched golden eagles and sea eagles and enjoyed the magnificent sunsets. We were very fortunate in having a week of excellent weather in October...not guaranteed at this time of year. The house is perfect for children, lots of toys and games indoors and swings and enclosed space outdoors. One particular aspect for disabled guests should be noted however. The wetroom was quite dark and there were no grabrails at all meaning my husband had to be helped on and off the loo. There are no shelves for toiletries and the shaver point was too high to reach from a wheelchair and was not even accessible to plug in our toothbrush. Potential guests should also note that use of the hot tub incurs an additional £100/week. The house was quite expensive to rent but, although very nice, there was lots of chipped glass/crockery and the boot room and one bedroom were cold, with no instructions regarding use of the room thermostats. Although reasonably clean, there was some previous guest's sock lying under a bed and a dirty glass inside one of the bedside tables. It is also the responsibility of guests to remove all their rubbish to a disposal area some considerable distance from the house. Despite these points we enjoyed our stay in this beautiful area of Argyll and Bute.

We had a wonderful stay in Degnish Farmhouse with our family. The house is beautiful, cosy and very clean. We had a really good contact with the owner. And... special was that we received flowers for our wedding anniversary. Thank you very much for taking care of everything!

Probably the nicest holiday let we have ever stayed in the UK.

Probably the nicest holiday let we have ever stayed in the UK. The house was perfect for two families with plenty of space, immaculately clean and very well presented with every conceivable extra in the most stunning private location with views to die for. 5 miles off the main road down a single track road skirting the loch with amazing views at every turn. Wildlife everywhere, stunning night skies - magical!

A beautiful farmhouse with amazing views - however it is located at the end of a single track road which is in very bad condition-loads of potholes and it is not for the faint hearted with blind bends and summits. It is not suitable for sporty/low vehicles
