With new safety guidelines in place, travel looks a little different at present. These are some helpful things to know before you head off to Port Douglas Hinterlands:

• Find out if any restrictions apply to both your destination and origin. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so be sure to check before you book your flight.
• Wear a face mask even during airport screening. A TSA officer will require you to adjust your mask for identification purposes.
• Avoid handing your boarding pass (electronic or paper) directly to a TSA employee. Rather, place your pass on the scanner and then hold it up for the agent to visually inspect it.
• TSA is now permitting passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on bags. This will need to be removed from your bag for X-ray scanning.
• Empty everything from your pockets, such as your keys, phone and wallet, and put them in your carry-on instead of the bins. This will minimize handling during the screening process.
• Separate any food you're carrying for X-ray scanning. Food items often set off the alarm. Placing them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA officer to touch and inspect your belongings.
