"The best thing about this place is the location: right in front of the beach, a lot of restaurants and bars right down the stairs, close to public transportation, grocery stores and to Shopping Barra. The staff here is phenomenal, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good. The rooms and room furniture could use an upgrade."

"Amazing cost-benefit, you're in the heart of Salvador Carnival for the Barra-Ondina circuit. There are also good options to eat, very close to Shopping Barra, supermarkets, and drugstores. The hotel's structure is not the most modern or well maintained, but it is not an issue if you don't care about it. Also, be aware that depending on the floor, you may hear significant street noise."

" I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn other travelers. Hotel Portobello is advertised as a 4-star property, but based on my experience, it felt closer to a 1-star hotel. The facilities are outdated and in serious need of renovation. The rooms and common areas look worn down and poorly maintained, nothing like the photos shown online. The overall condition of the property does not reflect a 4-star standard in any way. For the very high price we paid, we expected comfort, quality, and a well-maintained environment — instead, we were extremely disappointed. The value for money is simply not there. This hotel is significantly overpriced for what it offers. A 4-star rating suggests a certain level of quality, service, and upkeep, and unfortunately, this property does not deliver that experience. The only positive part of our stay was the housekeeping service. The maid did a good job keeping our room clean and making the bed, and we truly appreciated her effort. However, that was the only highlight. Overall, this was not a 4-star experience, and I would not recommend it at the price they charge. Travelers should carefully manage their expectations before booking."

"Too many issues. All emails and comms in Portuguese and didn't reply to my message. No reception or staff other than security guard. When I arrived at at 7pm it was locked and only uses biometrics which they had not taken yet, so I could not get in. The security eventually let me in but very confusing. Room was clean but had chemical cleaner smell. AC worked good. Walls very thin and could hear neighbors taking showing and chatting fortunately they were quiet the rest of the time. Has balcony but the view is of ugly 70s looking buildings like in The Bronx. No English language stations only Portuguese. Bed was basic. Hot water worked good in shower - a rarity in Brazil. It's a popular area to stay in but the nearby beach is very dirty and full of garbage. "

"I am giving 1 star because the employees of the hotel are kind. As soon as we entered the room there was a dead cockroach on top of the sink. The television did not work at all in the first room and the smell in the hall if you have any type of allergy, do not go. On the second day I went to complain and on our way down the elevator stopped. We talked to the receptionist and she moved us to a different room. The tv in the new room worked, but there was a cockroach running around the room (also caught on video!) and when my daughter took a shower the entire bathroom flooded. We had to ask someone to fix it. It was the first shower in the "new"bathroom. The next day they closed the swimming pool with no previous notice. I am not even going to talk about the food. Very bad food. Not even the French fries. You can see the oil is old. One of the highlights of hotels in Brazil are the breakfast, not in this hotel. No fresh fruits, very low variety of options. I am very glad that we left when we did. A horrible, horrible, experience."
