Standing out from the other beaches and coves of the island is this special point, where you’ll find sea grass, caves and rock pools.
Punta Pedrera comprises a secluded section of golden cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. With few crowds, the water here is ideal for a private swim between the rocks at the foot of the cliffs. Admire the glow of the varying blue and green hues of the water in this picturesque nature spot.
Bring snorkeling gear for a glimpse of the range of lively and colorful aquatic creatures beneath the surface of the water. The sea here is particularly calm and clear, providing excellent diving and snorkeling conditions. You may see a few daredevil locals launching themselves off the cliffs into the water. This is actually quite dangerous, as the water is shallow and full of rocks in parts.
Swim alongside the cliff face and find the various rock pools and submerged caves that pockmark it. Dry off under the sun at the top of the rock formation and have a picnic while you enjoy wonderful views of the sea and the surrounding area. The wind and sea spray combine to keep you relatively cool on summer afternoons.
Amid the rocks and sand are patches of sea grass that cushion your feet. These unruly plants and jagged rocks make the area feel a little wilder and more remote than the manicured beaches and resorts adorning the rest of the island.
Note that the point is accessible only by foot. Spot pink eroded rocks and seagulls along the path.
Punta Pedrera marks the northwestern corner of Formentera Island. Drive west around the Estany des Peix lake for about 10 minutes and walk the rest of the way along a narrow, rocky path to reach the point. Make sure to explore the surrounding area for treasures such as the Marina de Formentera, the Plaça de Llebeig and the Area Recreativa de Can Marroig.
