Villa Ermellina Siena, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"One of my favorite hotels. The rooms (at least ours) are very small. BUT... they're beautiful as is the entire property. It's a hike to town, so plan on driving or taking a cab. The views are incredible. It's the type of hotel experience you would imagine for your Italian dream vacation.
Nitpicks: We booked two days in Siena as a rest in the middle of the rest of our travels. This would have been PERFECT for that, except that they were hosting a large, Indian wedding. (Which was BEAUTIFUL by the way.) But, the DJ played (accompanied by a saxophonist!) until almost midnight and the morning ceremony started pretty early as well. So, it didn't end up being as restful as we'd hoped as this was all happening right outside our window.
Also, if the restaurant or bar is closed, there is no where to get a snack or drink. (Not really anywhere to get just a snack anyway.) Wouldn't be such a big deal, except you're not near any convenience stories or anything. A vending machine would be nice!"
"The view from the dining area was perfect. The included breakfast was amazing and the complimentary ebike rentals were perfect to get around outside of the hotel to catch more amazing views! The food at dinner was perfect. The only thing that was lacking was the bathroom showers. Ours was leaking. Other than that it was a perfect stay."
"Hotel Italia was an absolute gem. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful — they understood we were tired from traveling with teens and even nailed a salon recommendation that turned out to be the best hair wash of my life, just minutes from the hotel. Our room was spotless, quiet, and the A/C worked perfectly; we didn’t hear a sound from neighbors or stair traffic. The location is a sweet spot — only 5 to 10 minutes from the tourist sights, yet tucked in a local neighborhood with bakeries and grocery stores, giving us that refreshing, peaceful feeling of being disconnected from the tourist rush. Breakfast was amazing, and the little teen-approved Duomo and gelato challenges made exploring even more fun. Bottom line: we’d come back and stay here again in a heartbeat. For anyone visiting Siena, Hotel Italia at Porta Camollia gives you that perfect “live like a local” buffer before diving into the Duomo and Piazza del Campo — and if you need a salon, just ask reception; their pick is solid."
"If you are thinking of staying anywhere else in toscana…DON’T! This was the most amazing stay. We extended our stay because it was so beautiful and full of history. The amenities are also wonderful!"
"We enjoyed our stay immensely. The staff was very accommodating, especially with our two year old. The activities we did (movie night- included; dinner in the olive grove, truffle hunting, & a cooking class- paid) were all lovely experiences. We loved the property grounds."
Make a point to visit attractions such as Chianti Sculpture Park and Siena Circuit. During your stay, visit sights such as Castle of Brolio, Villa a Sesta Polo Club and Meleto Castle.
