Chose hotel for location and great view over Scarborough and harbour. Car park small - could get blocked in. Threadbare treads on stairs, other public areas well maintained; good social distancing measures.
Had requested sea view, but 3rd floor room was at back with view over street. Was hot so a sash window was dangerously wedged open with a block of wood. Bed was clean and comfortable. Rest of furniture - unfashionably distressed – from 70s; very tatty; wardrobe door hinge broken. Had to dust inside drawers before we could use them. No hairdryer. Asked 3 TIMES at reception. Different excuses: “they are kept down here – will send one up; there should be one in drawer (had I looked?);housekeeping said it’s in the drawer”. On last day, lady checking room kindly went to fetch one. Poor communication on reception.
In contrast, housekeeping and restaurant staff efficient and friendly. Great view from restaurant; had a prime table for dinner. Food was fine, inexpensive -unlike the bar prices. Whereas I don’t mind child portions, my husband prefers more on his plate.
Fortunately, we weren’t napping as I heard a buzzing sound, opened our door to listen, unsure if it was a fire alarm. Was louder on lower floors. False alarm, but there were no checks done to ensure everyone was outside. A MAJOR safety concern.
I do not find fault all the time;usually let the odd thing slide, but too many negatives to ignore. Hence we will not stay here again or recommend it to others.
