The staff at this hotel /pub/ restaurant was outstanding I don’t write lots of reviews but they went above and beyond for me and nothing was to much trouble , the hotel was a nice hotel , food /drink was excellent overall well done to them

Wonderful NYE getaway
Lovely pub and rooms. We had a wonderful time. Friendly staff and an obvious family style atmosphere among the staff and locals. Only issue was it was so busy we couldn’t stay as long as we hoped in the pub, or eat as often in there- book ahead for food!

Would have given a five star rating if the food was better organised. The food was excellent but the main dinner menu was missing several options, as they had run out. There was little available for non red meat eaters. Also the excellent waitress had to inform each group of diners what was not available. This took some time. Maybe the changes could have been included on a revamped menu. Accommodation was good but the external lighting needs some attention. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Winter break
Lovely single night winter break booked at the last minute. Pub and accommodation were exactly what we were after and will definitely be back again. Service was good too. Particular shout out to the waiting staff in the pub who dealt with two unreasonable customers sat next to us very well. We felt you were too nice to them! Only constructive bit of feedback is around check in which is done from an outbuilding. When we arrived there was a bit of a queue and only one person working which meant people waiting outside. It’s a nice touch to take people to their room but it’s probably not necessary especially when they’re are people waiting. Certainly didn’t affect our enjoyment though and we’ll definitely stay again.

The room was a lovely room but the heating was not working. Late October and the weather was really bad, so the room was absolutely freezing. A gentleman put a tiny heater in the room and apologetically said it was the only one they had but it wasn’t even hot enough to warm our hands. We couldn’t stay in our room, which we enjoy doing on a break. Reception was not helpful at all, reluctantly gave us some money off one of our meals. A totally ruined break.

Delightful and quaint hotel in a beautiful little village. It’s close to the coastal path and beach and you can load up on a delicious breakfast before heading out to explore. Friendly and super helpful staff top it off.

A real Gem!
The room was beautiful with extra little touches that we didn’t expect, The food in the restaurant was extremely good both for dinner and breakfast. The only negative was how full the car park gets but for me that shows how successful the business is. Well done Masons Arms!!!!

Relaxing in spite of the weather
Great pub style hotel in wonderful peaceful country village location. Stayed 2 nights in superior room. Great facilities. Only one real improvement needed is white light for dressing table mirror . This is an oversight in most hotels.. Loved the night light at low level giving just the right amount of light in bathroom.

What’s not to love! This was the gem of all gems to find! Beautiful well equipped well thought out rooms with high end fixtures and fittings. The most comfortable bed imaginable. Fabulous shower and bathroom. The terrace to chill out on and soak up the beautiful views was amazing. The staff very friendly indeed. Breakfasts were delicious and some lovely choices too. I was a little concerned about how I would find the parking situation after seeing previous reviews but we had absolutely no problem and the typical Devon lanes were not a problem either, just all part of the wonderful experience. Thankyou so much to the team at Masons Arms for a fabulous bank holiday experience 😍

Loved the accommodation and the service was good most of the time. Donna on reception was great and dinner service very good. At breakfast we arrived within the time allotted we asked if we could have fresh fruit and we were told there was no more available. The check out time of 10:00 seems unreasonable if you are going for a relaxing weekend stay.

Stunning room with fantastic pub. So peaceful. Wonderful facilities including a daily hamper which really make it special! Nothing else in immediate area so need to walk or drive out. Pebble beaches this side of Devon.

The service at this hotel deserves one star only, but the rooms are pleasant enough except for the horrible drain smell. Thankfully they provide a scented room spray. Unfortunately what they don’t provide is positive service. I booked a room with bed and sofa bed for myself and two children, who spent a couple of nights with friends, and the last night at the hotel. When I asked the hotel to please make up the sofa bed for that night they had the temerity to respond that it would be impossible as *they had no sheets left*. I can’t even imagine a hotek so poorly run they could ever manage to give such an excuse. When at check out I asked if they could hold my bags, the response was “‘Mam, this is a 14th Century hotel - it wasn’t built with a luggage room.” It was also not built with showers, but somehow they managed. When I called the manager to address these issues, in addition to the dirty dishes stacked in the cupboard of the kitchenette, there was zero accountability taken, zero apologies - just blame shifting and being told no one had ever complained before. If you would like to be treated poorly by staff at all levels, not given the value for money spent, and spend the night smelling the drain from the bathroom by all means book this hotel.

Property really good traditional quality pub/hotel. English breakfast choice good, continental breakfast choice limited. Tea poor quality, needs to be Yorkshire tea or similar "tasteless". Floorboards from room above very creaky! Overall a lovely long weekend break despite the weather on Saturday - obviously nothing the hotel can do unless a direct line to the "Weather gods"!!!
