The green house is a pleasant little annexe behind the main building, equipped kitchen, clean and pretty! Friendly and welcoming host, lovely peaceful area near the Grotta lighthouse and handy for buses to town.

Stayed here in October on our last day! Nice place, cozy and quiet. Not too far from shopping district. Good if you have a rental car. Would stay here again if we go back!

The snaefellness room smelled bad. Others people commented on the smell but I didn’t believe them. I would never recommend this place to anyone it was below average for Iceland. The bed was old and so were the pillows. It really was like a hostel. The woman working the desk was great. She made it better experience.

We had low expectations for this place and it was still disappointing. We booked a bed and breakfast but they do not serve breakfast unless you pay extra. It was too expensive so we went to the only open bakery nearby. Place seems to be run by unpaid interns. The house is about an hour walk from downtown. The house is poorly soundproofed so we woke up every couple of hours to people coming in and out even though I’m a heavy sleeper and was super tired. Would not stay here again. Feels like a landlord scheme.

Be aware of the practice of this hotel. 1/they charge you about ten days before you check in even though the Expedia receipt says you only need to pay on arrival. If you don’t want to pay that early they threat to cancel your booking. If you ask them to show you the Expedia listing where it says this policy they would only say it is their policy. 2/ they would sell you to a different hotel. In our case we were asked to stay at Grotta northern light hotel. We didn’t even step into the blue house hotel. 3/the beddings in the grotta hotel were so worn and they smelled stinky - particularly the pillows. The bathroom was so dirty - the house overall was a bit run down. 4/ if you book two nights with them they will arrange you in two different hotels. In our case we complained and requested to stay in the same room which they eventually agreed.

Beautiful neighborhood close to shopping and restaurants. We were there during a hot week so the rooms upstairs would benefit from use of a fan since there is no A/C.

Self check in- never went to the main house to meet the manager. Didn't want to pay extra for breakfast. This property is necessarily the actual picture shown. They will bill you about a week before you actually stay if you use the pay at hotel option.

Was a really nice little spot in a quiet secluded area. There aren't too many amenities close by (other than the local pool) so it would require a little drive/taxi to get to restaurants or shopping. So many nice personal touches like info on how best to view the northern lights. Wonderful operators, so friendly.

Lovely breakfast available for purchase, homemade breads. The upstairs bath had a nice scrub and toiletries for guest use, rooms were a little small, and the other guests didn’t respect the quiet hours, but otherwise lovely stay

Perfect place to stay to visit the area.
I stayed in the Grótta Northern Lights property which is just a short walk from the Blue House building. It was really clean, warm, peaceful and comfortable and Andrea was very helpful with some good tips of places to visit. A perfect place to stay to explore the area. It was very handy to have a kitchen and seating area to prepare meals should you not want to eat out. A few minutes drive away is the Grótta Island Lighthouse which is a good place to see the Northern lights, but you can also see them from the park on the other side of the road. Don't forget to visit the Kvika Footbath to warm your feet!

Silvia was so sweet to let us drop off our luggage early so we could enjoy site seeing. Wonderful instructions for the house and for suggestions. Very cozy and warm.

The Blue House B&B is split into to location, very near from each other. The actual blue house is absolutely lovely and charming. The other location misses this charm.

Good location (out of the way), we were disturbed by other travellers (or possibly people who worked there - they were in the private part of the building), had to ask them to keep the noise down at 12:30am (surely its common sense to not shout / talk loudly at this kind of time?). Walls were very thin, really disturbed our sleep. The overall condition of the house is a bit dated, after reading amazing reviews I chose to stay here but I failed to see the hype. The upstairs bathroom had a large bath, and the downstairs had a shower (shower curtain is stained a bit at the bottom, bit gross). The house was cold, and the boot room absolutely stunk of feet - we stayed in 6 shared houses prior to this, all had boot rooms by the front door, none of which smelt. Communication from host was excellent, from various emails before our stay, to being able to join a WhatsApp chat to help us see the lights. I had an issue with our tv (we hiked all day so just wanted to chill out rather than walk around), I was able to WhatsApp someone who was able to help me even after hours. Parking was very easy!

Dear guest, We are sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay at our house. The building does not have a private part, so I guess during that time it was the other guests that were noisy. However, you understand it is not something we can control, especially so late at night. We can assure you that we clean our house every morning, especially the common areas. I understand that there was a bad smell in the area where you leave your shoes, which is also something we cannot control after the cleaning is over. That's why there is a second door to separate this room from the rest of the house. The place did not look like the pictures.The building was very much deteriorated and slummy. The place is more like a youth hostel.Heating did not work.Even with the help of the staff we could no get any TV stations.They would not discount at all re problems.The very rich owner leases this to another person so the yellow house is very much run down.No pride of ownership,just make as much money from the tourist.

However, we are not a hotel, but a guesthouse and you seemed not to remember what kind of accommodation you actually booked half a year ago. Our stuff was assisting you during your stay with all your requests and wishes. We can also assure you that we are not trying to make as much money from tourists but your price was higher because for some reason you booked a room for 4 people even though you were only two. It is a simple house like a conversion from a garage . Bedding and pillows are stinky. Coffee bags may be too old that has no coffee taste.

Wonderful home away from home
Can't find a home better from my own home, check in was smooth and efficient, I felt like I didn't leave home, warm and minimalist decors, I stayed a the twin room where u can see sun setting, bed was comfortable! Highly recommended!

Unfortunately an overall disappointing experience. Mold and it's smells in bathrooms unvacumned flooring. Dirty slippers offered for patrons wear. Get a deep cleaning crew in and fix rotting counters and figure out why your fridge smells like rotten meat. Too bad, great locations and views. Other reviews show that these things have not been fixed over time

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Blue House. We had a comfortable room where we stayed for two nights. The kitchen has lots of dishes for you to use to cook meals - and the breakfast provided was lovely. It was fun getting to know the fellow travelers staying at Blue House with us. If I am in Reykjavik again, I will certainly be staying at Blue House!

Location on the edge of city in a quiet residential area was fantastic and the partial view of the sea was good. Although the photo of the room on the site may not match the room your given. The "blue" house is considerably better and more attractive than the "yellow" house which has a shared tiny kitchen/tiny shower and toilet. Also the walls are paper tin so depending on how loud the other guests are, you may be kept up late. Really liked the quirky and welcoming feel of the blue house, but what we actually got felt like a cheap overflow option. We received a letter from the owner with a key code which worked fine, but we never saw anyone from the hotel during our stay at all. Expected a higher quality of B&B for the price. Regretted not going to a city hotel as my wife was extremely irritated we had a shared bathroom (this was stated in the booking) and by the noise from other guests (which you can't blame the owner for).
