About this property

3 Bed in Shaftesbury (oc-92395)

  • Melbury Abbas sits amidst the lush, rolling countryside of North Dorset, within the Cranborne Chase ANOB, a perfect base if you’re wishing to tour or walk. Shaftesbury, a short drive away, overlooks the glorious Blackmore Vale and is a good choice for whiling away an afternoon or picking up supplies, with a good range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as the much-photographed Gold Hill. The National Trust is on your doorstep; for house and garden visits and walking, Melbury Beacon, Fontmell Downs, and Win Green offer breathtaking panoramic views. Stourhead, Kingston Lacy and Hardy's Cottage are within a short drive. Further afield are many popular attractions including Salisbury, Stonehenge, Wilton House, Longleat and the New Forest. For coast lovers, the Jurassic coastline and the stunning Isle of Purbeck are 45 minutes away. Explore the trailway from Sturminster Newton to Blandford Forum by bike or on foot.

This cosy and lovingly furnished 18th-century grade II mid-terrace cottage is accessed via the rear garden path which leads you to the back door. Step up into the welcoming and well-equipped kitchen, which has views over the hills and garden and is ideal for enjoying leisurely meals. Steps lead up into the cosy sitting room, which has comfortable sofas arranged around the wood burner. A door leads from here into a study/reading area from which you enter the bathroom, where you can enjoy a refreshing rainfall style shower or enjoy a soak. Heading back through the sitting room towards the front of the property you'll find the staircase to the first floor, home to three lovely bedrooms which offer flexible sleeping accommodation, all with countryside views and decorated with care to create a restful ambience.

The garden is a peaceful and relaxing space to take in the views and listen to the birdsong, with a dining area, lounger chairs, and a summer house, the perfect spot for some quiet reading, afternoon tea, or pre-supper drinks, whatever the weather! There is parking for two cars.
