My wife and I had the opportunity to stay two months in Siena at Francesca's penthouse apartment. We had a very wonderful vacation and were very satisfied with our apartment. As it is almost impossible to actually park a rental car in the city itself, we found our place in an excellent location with an easy drive to the train station and bus stop under the shopping mall with easy access market and stores. The apartment was spacious with three bedrooms and two large bathrooms. A high point was sitting outside on the terrace enjoying a " happy hour "
with wonderful views of the countryside just outside the old city. The apartment's location made for easy rides to the Chianti and Crete Senesi countryside, and for trains to more far away places such as the Amalfi Coast - the train station is just 2/3 a mile down the street of our apartment.
As has been stated by virtually every renter-reviewer, the best thing about our rental were our interactions with the owner, Francesca Vigni. She was always available for advice in so many areas. She got me in to her dentist promptly when I had a dental emergency and went with me to help with that. As a 5th generation resident of Siena, she was able to recommend all sorts of restaurants, wineries, hill towns to visit, and so on which were her own personal choices and they all were excellent choices. She gave us an Italian phone to use at no cost which made all in country calls easy and free !
We took two tours from Francesca, who is a licensed tour operator. The tour of Siena was simply outstanding. We learned so much more than we would have just by ourselves, and it was topped off by a restaurant lunch which was wonderful. Our other tour was of Montalcino, an outstanding Brunello winery outside the town, lunch in Pienza which we also toured, a cheese factory, and finally an olive oil producer. Again simply an outstanding tour, aided greatly by Francesca's detailed knowledge of her subject.
Siena was for us the perfect location to enjoy Tuscany with its endless hill towns, wineries, and with some of the most beautiful scenery I could imagine. Driving in the countryside is relatively easy and the major towns are not far away in any direction. The city itself is a joy to wander around, as most of its citizens seem to do in the late afternoon.
I recommend Francesca's Casamia penthouse apartment in Siena without any reservations.
