The listing doesn't even do the cabin justice; beautifully decorated, very large, private back yard, and lots of activities (fooseball, cornhole, fire pit, kayaks). Also, very close to downtown St. Ignace where there are some excellent restaurants.
Our stay was amazing! Though you had to walk through some mud to get the kayaks out...well worth it. We loved the big window out back to watch the morning come alive with seagulls as we drank our coffee!
Hot tub, though small, was just perfect after kayaking the coast.
I definitely will come back & stay in this cute cabin/home.
oh....the neighbors right across the street, were so friendly! Enjoyed talking with them.
Well, we ended up not staying there. We had to get three hotel rooms. Because of the sloping floors and different elevations, it was not safe for my sister to stay there. Fall hazard everywhere! I would like to speak with someone to see what my options are. I also had insurance.
This was a great property. We loved that it was right on the water and close to lots of things to do! It did have a smell from the water standing on the beach. Also, you do sink in the mud when trying to get your kayak in the water. The house was very clean and had everything we needed and more! The hot tub was great!
Overall a decent rental. Great location for trips to Mackinac Island as well as Tahquamenon Falls and Petosky. Very quiet and peaceful with cool lake wildlife in the morning and evening. Cabin was well provisioned for preparing meals. The lakeshore was a bit muddy which made kayaking a little interesting but the kayaks and paddle boards were in good condition. Communication with the host was good. Overall a good visit
Let me start by saying that we really enjoyed our stay and this place has a lot to offer. It helps to have a sense of what you’re getting before arrival. Definitely bring water shoes to wade into the water. There is a short dock and you can find a path from there that is supported by sand. If you deviate from that path there is quite a bit of muck. You might lose a sandal in 6” deep mucky waters there. Once we figured it out we had no problems and really enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boards. The 2 bathrooms are placed in areas of the house that cause a lot of disturbance to sleepers when used in the middle of the night. Creaky doors and shared bathrooms mean half the house can hear the movement. We got used to it. Perfect weather throughout the week really helped. We could walk to Castle Rock. One concern was it was very damp, had an odor when we walked in, and has a lot of slanted floor boards. The dehumidifiers couldn’t keep up.
The property is in a great location. We were located near everything we wanted to see: Soo Locks & Dams, Fort Michilimackinac, Mackinac Island, Macinaw City, and the boardwalk at St. Ignace.
We enjoyed the deck, the hot tub room, the fire ring, the dining room, the assortment of books and games, and the large kitchen.
There is not a dock for the boat that we hauled up. The beach is not a sandy beach, it was smelly mud and clay; we were not prepared for that. Only one hot tub jet worked. The Jack-n-Jill bathroom never dried after the very first shower, there isn’t an exhaust fan. There are not any ceiling fans to circulate air, but there were two oscillating fans we moved from room to room. I would strongly suggest an exterminator to help control the the gnats, earwigs, spiders, May flies and the chipmunks living in the walls and above the ceiling.
We used two kayaks and life vests, those were in great shape, and the lake is absolutely beautiful beyond the beach. Overall, we had a good time, and we relaxed!
Our rental went very smoothly and the house was wonderful. Only thing we didn’t like so much was mosquitoes but they are manageable. The town is a little depressed but lots of stuff that is near and fun to explore. We found the book collection at the house very interesting. Definitely would recommend this place.
