Ate in the dining area of the pub both nights and enjoyed the food. Informal but friendly service by all, and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Recommend a walk to the canal and then the walk to Gloucester on the tow path. It’s well paved and flat and about three miles."

"The children especially enjoyed the selection of games in the cottage. Painswick is a very pretty village and the surrounding area is beautiful. We enjoyed visiting Stroud and Nailsworth. 10 year old’s review - It was nice and posh and it had a very nice kitchen. It is in a really lovely area and was just a step away from the outdoors. There was a big mill pond we found on a walk around the local area.The garden was really nice and the swing seat was cool. My 8 month old cousin Lucas liked the stringy chairs near the kitchen. Make sure you visit the church and church yard."

"We spent an incredible 3-day weekend at the Retreat in Painswick. Sue and Tim are extremely accommodating and will make the trip perfect, from having thought through all the details of the house, to having everything like at home, to sharing recommendations and being extremely responsive before and during your time there. This definitely was a highlight The photographs and videos on the website are beautiful, but they still don’t quite prepare you for how peaceful and serene the Retreat feels in person. There is a real sense of calm about the building and their surroundings that is difficult to capture on camera, and despite being a large group we found there was plenty of space to spend time together as well as quieter areas to retreat to. The owners do operate a very clear and quite strict noise policy, particularly later in the evening and around the outside areas. Having spent time in Painswick, though, it is completely understandable – it is a small, peaceful and intimate Cotswold village, and the Retreat is clearly intended to fit respectfully into that setting. It certainly didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves it simply means guests need to be considerate of the surroundings, particularly at night. Thank you Tim and Sue for a wonderful weekend."

"Unusual, lovely house. Definitely one for those that don’t want a generic holiday home. Great that you have outside access on every level. The kitchen is fantastic and the eclectic mix of furniture in the rest of the house, works really well. Host was very helpful and responded to any messages very quickly.The house is a little difficult to find but, host soon explained directions."

"The property has been fitted out to a very high standard indeed and the four bedrooms are large and really comfortable. There is a covered outdoor area that's great for socialising and has an excellent gas bbq. The house sits on the edge of Brook Farm with views up the valley and on the doorstep of many beautiful walks. The owners couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. All in all, we had a fantastic time at Owl's Nest Barn and would highly recommend."

"Locks Cottage is a beautiful property surrounded by rolling lawns, fields full of wildlife with an utterly vibe only punctuated by the occasional baaaaaing of sheep. The open plan downstairs has a very socialable set up of kitchen, diner and living room with lots of comfy seating, very good lighting and side tables. We stayed with our family ranging in age between 4 and 79, so three distinct sleeping areas were idea. All very comfortable with good bathrooms. The outside seating area is inadequate for 10 people and so is the hot water system. The Wifi was broken (no television either) but luckily one of our guests knows how to mend these things - and did! but that could be a problem for the non-technically minded. The freezer is also very small for so many guests. A very good place for family gatherings."
