We had a lovely stay here whilst visiting Beamish Museum. Can’t fault it at all. Be aware when booking online the cost is quoted as “Best bed and breakfast rate” however when settling our bill at the end of our stay, breakfasts had been added on top. This was swiftly resolved but best to check directly when booking.

Amazing Stay
Stayed for a friends wedding. Perfect venue and amazing hotel, located in the beautiful Durham countryside. Rooms are spacious, affordable and super comfy. The free standing bath is out of this world.

The location and grounds are beautiful. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking fields with rattan furniture on the deck area - we were lucky and had nice weather for our one night stay so enjoyed a glass of wine in the sun. Room was huge and well presented and generally really comfy. Unfortunately the check in was poor - we had to ask where the room was rather than being escorted. The under floor heating would not turn off so the room was really warm. The room was adjoined to other rooms with connecting doors which meant it was very noisy which would probably be ok and more suited if you stayed as part of wedding party for example. Our food wasn’t good. Shared meat platter for £26 was worth about £3 and very little meat although scotch egg was nice. Fish and chips awful and no taste - we had to complain and were given partial refund on food. Service poor - they had some large parties in but that’s not an excuse we were left waiting 25 minutes after our meal so just had to leave the table. Such a shame for a lovely place .

Fabulous place with original and impressive decoration. Some amazing bespoke carpentry, feature bed, bath and lamps. Friendly staff. Exterior quality and styling too. Recommend stay.

Good, clean room, everything looks brand new. Food excellent. Location is good. Menu choices are good. Service ok if a little indifferent. Only issues were: heating very noisy & little sound proofing to room below.

OMG this place was absolutely amazing. The room had every little detail you could imagine, from a nespresso machine to fridge, a walking in wet room/shower and THE BIGGEST COPPER BATH I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! Food and service were brilliant and the views were to die for. Will definitely be back, sooner rather than later hopefully!

5 star accommodation , out of this world.
This place is absolutely amazing, the peace, the food, the room, the staff, all of it! I would highly recommend to anyone, it was like being at a wellness retreat, good for my soul!! I will definitely be back!

A little disappointed!
Checked in late but was offered a free drink at the bar by way of apology. Room was superb as was bath / shower / tv and decor. Unfortunately the safe didn’t work and the staff didn’t know how to fix the issue so stayed broken and no attempt to have a look at the safe in the room , which is disappointing! . The air con didn’t work properly and the staff didn’t know how to fix the issue, so stayed broken, causing broken sleep due to how hot it was in the room, only small windows were able to be opened which didn’t really help. Dinner was absolutely wonderful if a little slow to serve. Overall a lovely place to stay, great scenery, good prices , pleasant staff , but let down by the silly things that I’ve mentioned that could easily be fixed with the right application of the staff.

Lovely spot
Lovely little cottage with everything you need for a family stay. Short stroll to pub with decent food. Menu becomes a bit limited after 6pm but the staff were helpful and food good. We had one little problem which was sorted out immediately. Would book again

We booked our stay here in Feb 2020 before the outbreak of COVID19. Despite several phonecalls and emails being unanswered, and Expedia also not being able to contact the property, we took a risk and travelled the 2.5 hours with 3 young children to find the property recently open again to guests. Hugely relieved we had a bed for the next 2 nights and excited at staying in the gorgeous 2 bed cottage before us, we entered to find an overwhelming stench of sewers filled the entire cottage. Although on the surface, everything was neat and tidy the draws under the children's bed (they had put their toys in them) had brown stains, hair and dirt in them. There was hair, a dirty bin, toothpaste marks and a dirty towel with an orange stain on in the bathroom, stains to the worktops in the kitchen including a bowl of water in the sink, and hair and dirt throughout the property. The conservatory was so full of dead and living flies that my kids were too disgusted to eat in there; instead we spent the first 2 hours of our stay hoovering them all up - in doing so, we moved one of the armchairs to find a coathanger thick with dust underneath and some manky M&Ms under the couch in the lounge. This place has the potential to be a stunning venue to stay but I couldn't wait to get out of there; it clearly hadn't been cleaned, or even aired, recently. Given the current situation with the pandemic, I would have thought (deep) cleaning was a legal requirement. Non existent customer service.

A hidden gem, tucked away from the main road.
Excellent facility with nice grounds (children friendly) and superb beer garden. Food of a very high quality. Staff excellent and friendly except one manager that was a tad off on one occasion.
