About this property

A place you'll wish you had booked for longer

  • A place you'll wish you had booked for longer ... there are cottages that make a good base for exploring the Cotswolds; and then there are cottages that make you want to cancel your plans, stay another day, and simply enjoy being there. 1 Spring Cottage is very much the latter.

Hidden away in a peaceful corner just a minute's stroll from the heart of beautiful Painswick, this lovingly restored Cotswold stone cottage has become a favourite retreat for couples returning year after year. Guests describe it as "magical", "beautiful", "cosy", "a perfect retreat" and, perhaps our favourite compliment of all, "it felt like home the moment we arrived."

Whether you've come for long walks, lazy mornings, great food, or simply to escape the pace of everyday life, 1 Spring Cottage invites you to slow down. Wake to birdsong; wander into the village for coffee and warm pastries; spend the day exploring the hidden valleys and honey-coloured villages of the Cotswolds; then return to light the gas fired wood burning stove, pour a glass of wine and settle into the quiet that makes this little corner of Painswick so special. Everything has been carefully chosen to make your stay comfortable, from the well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings, to the thoughtful little touches waiting for you when you arrive, including the welcome basket, fresh flowers and local recommendations.

Beautifully restored while respecting its Cotswold heritage, 1 Spring Cottage combines original character with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The welcoming sitting room is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring; while the fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to prepare anything from a leisurely breakfast to a scrumptious supper using local produce from nearby farm shops. Upstairs, the spacious bedroom offers a peaceful night's sleep and stunning views from the bed whilst sipping your morning tea, while the two bathrooms make longer stays especially comfortable.

Designed exclusively for two adults, 1 Spring Cottage is ideal for couples looking for somewhere quiet, comfortable and full of character. Dogs are very welcome too, because we know holidays are even better when every member of the family can come along. Every season has its own charm; spring brings blossoms and wildflowers; summer means breakfast in the courtyard and long evenings outdoors; autumn fills the surrounding beech woods with rich golds and reds, making the walk to Painswick Beacon unforgettable; and winter transforms the cottage into a wonderfully cosy retreat, with crisp walks followed by evenings beside the gas fired wood burning stove.

Known as the "Queen of the Cotswolds", Painswick is one of those rare villages that guests return to again and again and is the perfect choice for an authentic, peaceful countryside escape with crowd-free historic charm, dramatic valley views, and unique local attractions. Painswick serves as a quiet, central base for exploring the region without the tourist hustle. From the cottage you can walk to independent cafés, welcoming pubs, excellent restaurants and the village shops within minutes. The famous Rococo Garden is nearby, while the Cotswold Way and Painswick Beacon offer wonderful walking directly from the front door.If you'd like to explore further afield, Cheltenham, Cirencester, Gloucester, Bath, Westonbirt Arboretum, Sudeley Castle and countless picturesque Cotswold villages are all within easy reach.
