Tired rooms with a musty smell to them. It was cheap for the area and that is reflected in the condition of the room. If you are looking for a place to crash and dont intend to stay in the room long, it is tolerable. The staff were friendly and accomodating.
Room was very dirty and the whole place is a bit run down. The room keeping consists of making he bed only.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
I was ripped off paying £55 per night. It should be more like £30.
Room was basic with en-suite toilet and shower, plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk in the room.
Great price for room for one night stay,
Would stay here again

The creaky floors and thin walls all over the property makes it very difficult to sleep at night. I could hear windows blowing open and closed all night from next-door. There was just too much background noise.
However, it was generally very clean and not bad for the price.
The room smelled of body odour and generally felt dirty. I paid 80 pounds for the room. No breakfast and no bar. I could not use the shiwer because the bathroom was unclean. I really believe that if there were proper regulations for letting such a room then it would not be able to be let.
Welbeck hotel do not warrant a charge of £70.00.
Its the most basic of places I've stayed at, the bed was the most uncomfortable to sleep on, the shower rail was filthy, the extractor fan in the bathroom did not work, the window blinds in the room were very filthy to even touch. Never again.
The hotel is situated not far from the waterfront and about 30 minutes walk to Southend. The exterior is fairly tidy looking and the guy who checked us in was pleasant. We had a family room with 2 single and a double bed and bathroom which was a little rough but adequate. Unfortunately my son who I work with woke me up in the middle of the night saying he was getting bitten by bed bugs! I told him to change beds which he did but then got woken again 30 minutes later saying that this bed was even worse and he was sleeping in the car which he did. I hadn't felt any affects of this and stayed in the room. The next morning he came back up to the room covered in bites and I noticed I was too, we lifted the mattresses and couldn't believe the amount of bugs under them which we have video evidence. The hotel had no night porter to complain to and we left at 6 am. We stayed in room 6. This hotel has serious issues in this room possibley every room. Certainly would not use again.
The room was dirty, the towels were stained, the cups were dirty, the coffee in the jar tasted disgusting so god knows how long it had been there, the mattress on the beds were so soft we hardly slept, there were people on the landing shouting and slamming doors at midnight, was just awful, would never stay there again.
Friendly staff and a bonus that there was parking for guests, the room was clean and a good size there was tea and coffee supplied the room was cleaned daily with clean towels replaced every day.
The Welbeck had a feel about it that was not good at all. The paint in the bedroom was bright but everything had a tired feel about it. We didn't feel at all comfortable there, staying out in the evening as long as possible and leaving earlier than we needed to.
The towels were frayed along the edges and there was a hole in the quilt cover.
You could feel the springs sticking up in the mattress, and the bed base was not joined together properly.
We paid £50.00 for the room which did not include breakfast.
We will be going to the area again to see family but definitely will not stay at the Wellbeck.

Great welcome
Great welcome from staff
Room was a bit dated but for the price wasn't expecting that much but was worth a stay quiet good sleep.
This place is worse than a public toilet ! Beyond dirty and run down. The bathroom was the worst....the grouting n sealant everywhere totally disgusting, sink broken n no plug , broken fan , everything falling to bits , we used a baby wipe over our hand before touching anything ! There's no way the reviews I read are true about this hole , wouldn't dream of entering the dump again n it says it has a hygiene rating of 5 ...I wouldn't let my dog eat there ! I could go on n on , but u get the picture.
Got there to find a bag of used pregnancy tests in the drawer smelled awful.
Room smelled of damp.
Not at all nice for a family.
Refunded our money.
Didn’t stay the night.
Awful.
