Stayed here in June 2015. Renovations complete, no construction going on. Stayed in the "older" part of the hotel which was nice and cozy. Clean and comfortable, free bottle of water every night. Less than a ten minute walk to any subway line, one mile away from the National Mall. Highly recommend.
It was our first overnight stay in DC so I can't compare the hotel to any others in the area. Check in was quick and easy on a Tuesday. We didn't use the hotel parking at $45/night that's crazy so we found another hotel nearby for $30/night. The water bottles and snacks offered in the room come at a hefty price so beware before you take. It's about a 20-25 minute walk to the National Mall which we didn't mind. The rooftop pool is nice, but closes at 5:00 for happy hour. It's open to anyone not just hotel guests so one day when we got back from a long day of walking there was a wait for the elevator. The beds are not the most comfortable unless you like super firm. Overall, the room was clean, decent location, and staff was friendly.
Loews Madison is a terrific hotel for both business and leisure travel. The central location, comfortable rooms and helpful staff made our weekend stay very enjoyable. Only knock is the parking. Outrageous at $50 overnight.
We made a family trip to see the sights of the capital. The Hay Adams Hotel quite simply has the best location of any hotel in Washinton D.C. The rooms, service and food were impeccable and we will definitely be returning.
Pocket Guide: Washington Downtown Washington D.C. Hotels
Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.
