About this property
Experience luxury mountain living with breathtaking Blue Ridge views, a hidden speakeasy, hot tub, fire pit, and premium amenities just minutes from Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, and Nelson 151.
Perched atop the Blue Ridge above Nelson County, Skyline Retreat is built around the view. Guests come for panoramic vistas, a private hot tub, and unforgettable evenings in your outdoor retreat—complete with a putting green under the lights and fire-lit seating. Inside, enjoy warm, upscale finishes and the Skyline Speakeasy—a hidden lounge guests love discovering after they arrive.
We respect your privacy while staying just a message away. Our local Koehler Vacation Rentals team lives right here in Nelson County and is available throughout your stay for anything — home questions, winery and restaurant recommendations.
You’ll receive detailed check-in instructions before arrival, and we’ll check in the morning you arrive to make sure everything is set. We’ve been hosting in this region for more than a decade — you’re in good hands.
Skyline Retreat sits at the top of Afton Mountain, at the gateway to the Blue Ridge Parkway (Mile 0) and Skyline Drive — where Shenandoah National Park begins. Mountaintop privacy with everything worth doing within a short drive:
- 5 min to the Shenandoah National Park south entrance - 5–10 min to Blue Mountain Brewery (Afton), Veritas, Hazy Mountain - 10 min to Waynesboro for groceries, coffee, and restaurants - 15–20 min to Bold Rock Hard Cider (Nellysford) and the Nelson 151 corridor - 25–30 min to Devils Backbone Basecamp Brewpub (Roseland) - 25–30 min to Charlottesville, UVA, and the Downtown Mall - 30–35 min to Monticello and Virginia's top wineries — King Family, Pippin Hill, others - 33 min to Wintergreen Resort — skiing in winter, golf and spa the rest of the year - 35–45 min to Crabtree Falls, the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi
Whether you're here to sip wine, chase waterfalls, ski Wintergreen, or unwind by the fire, Skyline Retreat delivers privacy with rare access to everything.
Guests have full, private access to the entire home — all three levels, the Skyline Speakeasy, and the wraparound outdoor spaces with panoramic mountain views.
Check-in is easy and contactless with a secure keypad on the front door. You’ll receive a personalized door code and detailed arrival instructions the day before check-in — no keys, no stops, no waiting on the porch.
On-site parking is available just steps from the entrance. From the moment you arrive, Skyline Retreat is entirely yours.
Welcome to Skyline Retreat — a signature Blue Ridge mountain home.
Perched at the very top of the mountain, Skyline Retreat blends modern design with a quiet, private setting. It’s the signature property in our Koehler Vacation Rentals collection — a decade of renovation experience and more than 100 previous homes poured into this one. Featured on The Destination Channel.
The Skyline Speakeasy
Hidden inside the home is the Skyline Speakeasy — a private, intimate lounge tucked away for late-night conversation, cocktails, games, or simply stepping into something different for an evening. Guests discover it after they book (yes, we tell you where). It’s one of the features guests talk about most — and one of the reasons you won’t want a short stay here.
The Space
• Three levels of thoughtfully designed living space • Well-appointed bedrooms with mountain views • Gourmet kitchen designed for meals you’ll actually want to cook • Stone fireplace for cozy evenings • Open living areas with panoramic windows • Private hot tub overlooking the valley • Private putting green under the lights for evening fun • Fire-lit outdoor seating designed for gathering and connection • Wraparound outdoor space for morning coffee and sunset wine
Perfect For
• Couples’ retreats and anniversaries • Small family getaways • Two-couple wine weekends • Friend groups and milestone celebrations
A note on length of stay: Skyline Retreat is at its best over two or more nights — long enough for a slow second morning on the deck, a proper trip down the Nelson 151 trail, and an evening in the Speakeasy or out on the patio. Most guests tell us they wish they’d stayed longer.
A car is required. Roads are paved all the way up, but AWD or 4WD is recommended during winter.
Most wineries, breweries, hiking trails, and restaurants are within a 10–20 minute drive. On-site parking is available for every guest.
If you’d rather not drive, private wine-tour transportation is available locally — we’re happy to share trusted providers once you book.
A few things to know before you arrive:
Getting here. Skyline Retreat sits at the top of a mountain with paved roads all the way up. AWD or 4WD is strongly recommended during winter or inclement weather.
The rhythm of the home. Skyline Retreat is designed for relaxation and multiple-night stays — most guests tell us they wish they’d booked an extra night. Quiet hours run 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. out of respect for our mountain neighbors.
House notes: • No pets, no smoking • Hot tub is available year-round • As with any mountain home, wildlife occasionally passes through. Please secure food and trash as directed. • We maintain a professional pest-control program; occasional insects are simply a part of country living.

This mountain-chic home was the perfect blend of cozy and elevated. From the moment we arrived, the views were breathtaking and the atmosphere felt peaceful and intentional—rustic charm paired with thoughtful, modern touches. The accommodations were beautifully styled, warm, and inviting, with every detail curated for comfort. The secret room was a perfect touch to this beautiful home!
The house was absolutely beautiful!!! But, read to the end because there were a few issues. It was very well appointed and stocked with extra amenities like a full coffee bar, plenty of games, and a bar cart. The furniture and decor were lovely, beds were comfortable, and the view from the deck amazing! We had a great time hanging with family, grilled most nights, and watched the sunset on the fabulous deck. Two issues were lots of stink bugs inside the house and the AC is not well regulated between floors. Bedrooms on bottom floor were freezing while the third floor bedroom was warm. Only thermostat was on second floor, which was always comfortable. The bugs - brown marmorated stink bugs- they kept coming in through walls and windows in main living area. We would need to dispose of 25-30 bugs every day. Plus we would find plenty others dead around the window sills every morning. It was a little off putting, and if anyone in your group had a fear of bugs, they would be disturbed by it. The bugs are harmless, and they hibernate in winter, so probably not an issue in that season. But, it was spring and the weather warm, so we were a little surprised by the number of bugs inside the house.
