Vilamoura, located in the Algarve, is one of the best holiday destinations in Europe, known for it's large Marina, numerous internationally recognised golf courses and a beautiful sunny beach extending for several kilometres.
There is a lot to do within the region, including boat tours, water parks and historic towns to explore, including traditional fishermen villages and mountain castles. From Vilamoura there are many interesting day trips to the surrounding region, such as Silves, Faro, Loulé and Albufeira.
The local food is great, especially sea food. Visitors should try the typical "Cataplana", a dish of moorish influence which uses a clam shaped copper pan to cook a mix of fish and sea food, with spicy sausage, tomatoes, wine, garlic and herbs.
Vilamoura has long hot summers, pleasant spring/autumns and winters that are mild with lots of sunshine.
The is a large population in Vilamoura so most restaurants and cafes stay open year round, including Christmas and New Year when there is a lively atmosphere.
Vilamoura has comprehensive network of bikes-for-rent, allowing visitors to move literally everywhere from the village center to restaurantes and beaches.
Vilamoura is 25 minutes away from Faro International Airport and approximately two hours away from Lisbon. Well served by motorways, buses and trains.
