"I'm a city guy and was worried about the lack of options in Julian, CA, which looked like it was, frankly, in the middle of nowhere. There are no big hotels here because it's a small town away from the cities for people to enjoy nature and a quieter vibe.
I paid up to stay at Orchard Hill compared to the other choices around town, and I'm really satisfied with the decision. We stayed in Lodge Room 9, which is one of the rooms in the Main lodge building (as opposed to the individual cottages). In some ways, it felt like a hotel room (albeit only one of ten) because it was in the main lodge. It wasn't really big, but more than adequate for sleeping. It fit two people fine. Definitely not a modern aesthetic (she told me they would upgrade to key cards soon), but everything was clean. There was a small nostalgic TV but we still watched on it from bed. A wall unit A/C. The bathroom had a bright skylight that was cool. Our only small issue was the deadbolt on our door wasn't working well, but the staff noted it for their maintenance staff. The door still locked anyways so we were fine.
The staff were super friendly and nice, and checked on us any time they saw us.
I didn't eat the included breakfast as we only stayed one night and we slept in til checkout time.
All in all, good stay, and would recommend especially if you want something clean and comfortable and if you're used to nicer hotels."
"Well maintained delightful property
Small rooms but adequate size for a couple without children
Patio a bonus but not used as temps were too high to enjoy the outdoors - in August
Absolutely loved the amazing breakfast in the mornings delivered to your room
Warm croissants with fresh juice and fruit -
Extremely thoughtful and sweet! "

10/10 Excellent
"Perfect little getaway home! The house is very cozy private and nicely decorated. Bed is comfortable, shower is very nice and the kitchen had everything we needed to make meals as well as a great grill. The pool was very refreshing and the sauna was great too. We have been to Julian many times and wow, this home has it all. Robes, slippers spa type shampoo, conditioner. body wash. Dog friendly was a must for us. We feel fortunate to have found this little hidden treasure and would love to return! "
