"Great location and good parking. Restaurant/bar next door had good food. I saw where people had complained about the road noise, we used a sound machine that was provided so it wasn’t a problem. "The property location was excellent for our needs. A car is necessary but everything is very convenient and accessible. The very best part was our host. I have never dealt with anyone so concerned with our having a wonderful vacation. From our first contact to the last she could not have been more available and considerate. The unit had everything that we needed and the view was one of, if not the very best we have ever had, and this is based on 60 years of travel. I could not rate the facility or the host any higher."

"Pros: Love the porch view, this is why we chose this property. The bathrooms were well stocked with everything you need. The property was clean, sheets soft, bed comfortable, easy access shower, full size refrigerator with ice maker, full size dishwasher, dishwasher soap, huge washer and dryer with every kind of washer products, coffee maker, microwave, homemade oatmeal cookies, as well as a large variety of snacks, outdoor gas grill, and small fire pit. Sitting outdoors had 2 comfortable chairs and a bench. The dining table has 4 chairs. There are 2 leather chairs in the living room and bedrooms have a closet with hangers and a dresser if you chose to unpack, which I did because I stayed for a week. John was very knowledgeable about local activities and restaurants. He took us on a tour of the salmon hatchery. John offers breakfast every morning at the time convenient for you. We had breakfast 4 mornings. The other mornings we were gone very early.Two couples stayed at this home. I had 2 rental cars.Cons: There is a gravel walkway to the entry. Parking is in front of a garage and John's house. I did not know John resides upstairs. The full kitchen has 1 convection burner, looks like a hot plate. The oven, sits on the counter. It's the size of an air fryer. I did not use the oven. To use the convection burner, I placed a heavy skillet on the burner and added my pot, which I brought from home. There are no inside locks on bedroom doors."

"This place was perfect for us! This was our first trip to Juneau and Alaska, so we wanted to get a broad picture of the area. Hillside Haven was close to plenty of amenities and services, but well away from the cruise ship crowds of downtown. We rented a car, so we were able to spend a few half days downtown enjoying the restaurants and other attractions, and the rest of the time out exploring on our own, up and down the coast, the glacier, and Douglas Island.We were able to rent a kayak and arrange a separate whale watching excursion, both at Auke Bay just a couple of miles down the road. The Alaska State Ferry terminal is also at Auke Bay, but on the northern end, so it is literally walking distance away from the suite (1/2 mile or so if I had to guess).Theresa and Tommy were the great hosts. They gave us the perfect balance of privacy to do our thing, but Theresa was always available to answer any questions about the place or the surrounding amenities in the area if we needed help.The place was clean and comfortable, and had a well appointed kitchen, bathroom and even access to a laundry room. To top it off, the steam shower / hot tub also felt really nice after spending a couple of cooler rainy days out exploring in our rain gear.We would definitely stay here again!"
