This charming single-storey one-bedroom cottage was built in 1880, as an old lead mine office and blacksmith’s forge. The cottage has been lovingly renovated and offers the perfect base for a relaxing countryside escape. Thoughtfully designed for comfort, the cottage features a welcoming lounge with a traditional wood-burning stove, ideal for cosy evenings after a day spent exploring the surrounding hills and dales. The single-level layout makes the space easy to enjoy, while the bedroom provides a peaceful setting for a restful night’s sleep. Guests also benefit from private parking, a valuable feature for a stay in the Peak District and perfect for those planning to explore the wider Peak District by car.
Youlgrave itself is one of the Peak District’s most beloved villages, known for its beautiful stone cottages, friendly atmosphere, and scenic location between rolling limestone hills. The village offers several welcoming pubs, a local shop selling local produce, and easy access to some of the area’s most stunning walking routes. From the doorstep, guests can follow paths through Lathkill Dale or Bradford Dale, both famous for their crystal-clear rivers, wildlife, and dramatic limestone scenery. These peaceful valleys provide some of the most picturesque walking opportunities in the national park.
The cottage is also ideally located for exploring nearby Peak District highlights. The historic market town of Bakewell is just a short drive away, where visitors can enjoy traditional shops, riverside walks, and of course the famous Bakewell tart. The magnificent Chatsworth House, one of Britain’s most celebrated stately homes, is also within easy reach and makes for a wonderful day out with its beautiful gardens, parkland, and farm shop.
Whether you’re seeking scenic walks, cosy village pubs, or simply a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, this cottage provides a wonderful base from which to experience the very best of the Peak District.
