While the staff was very nice, the hotel itself is outdated and grungy. It is in La Rambla, which our driver said is a very dodgy area. This was like staying in a Motel 6.

Good option for no frills travel, room was fairly clean, but old, more of a hostel than a hotel, but Miguel at the front desk was super friendly. Great option for those on a budget. And great location just off La Rambla, lots of shopping, restaurants and close to the metro and markets.

Hotel Moderno is an excellent choice for those who dont mind a no frills experience. Its conveniently located right off Los Ramblas and you can get to most other places fairly quickly via walking or taxi. As others have stated the property is dated and furnishing is worn. However everything was very clean. I was not spending much time at my hotel so it suited my needs. The staff are friendly enough but dont expect over the top service or help with recommendations. Can't comment on the breakfast as I did not partake. The area is safe if you take the standard precautions, I enjoyed the nightlife in Gothic, El Born and Raval and would regularly walk back to the hotel after 12 AM. I recommend this hotel for those whose focus is on exploring the city and not hanging out at the hotel.

Fantastic location just of La Ramblas half way down very near a Metro stop. Bedroom at the back despite no view was quiet considering the location. Friendly knowledgeable staff and a standard breakfast as expected for Hotels.com. Very small single bed in a basic room which looked a bit worn in places but had a clean bathroom and the bed had clean sheets etc. A wonky AC that failed to cool the room which had no outside ventilation available. Did the job for a short solo trip.

I like the surroundings, it is located in the middle of tourist places, very convenient with transportation and shopping, dining. But that is all. The hotel itself is nothing much, very humble with very basic facility. The staff was kind and the room is ok. But there were nothing in the room, no water, no decent amenities in the bathroom, no coffee pot. It was below par considering the price I paid.

Pros: Location is superb. 40 min metro(terminal 1 to liceu) from the airport with the metro station a 2 min walk from the hotel. Plenty of places to eat. Market is less than a few minutes away. Staff were pleasant Roof top terrace is a nice touch Although in centre of the city, my room was very quiet. Cons: Room was tiny albeit, it ‘ did the job ‘ Pillows were tiny, could do with bigger pillows. Room didn’t have much natural light. No hotel bar N/A Didn’t try the breakfast Didn’t

Reading other reviews, they were right this hotel is more of a hostel feel. It was run down, kind of dirty, rust and possibly mold in the shower, the bedroom window would not lock, broken tiling on the ceiling and floors. The staff were helpful, the location was excellent it was just a few steps off from La Rambla st (very popular tourist st with lots of shopping and dining), location to the tour bus pickup and drop off was close by. I would not recommend this place and I probably wouldn’t stay here again.
