About this property

Enamel Works - The Bellows

  • The Bellow is a private one-bedroom apartment inside Enamel Works, with its own kitchen, living space and dedicated workspace.

Stay in a genuine part of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter history. Historic England lists 28 Vittoria Street at Grade II (NHLE 1076107), dates it to about 1859 and describes it as an early purpose-built jewellery works.

Professor Carl Chinn's study of Vittoria Street records No. 28 being advertised in June 1866 as newly erected, convenient premises for factors and wholesale jewellers. C. F. Harrison and Company, merchant factors and manufacturers, later occupied it. By 1890 Arthur Harrop worked here as a gilt jeweller, and H. W. Timings Ltd was carrying on the same trade at the address 66 years later.

The building formed part of the Jewellery Quarter's interconnected manufacturing ecosystem. Specialist work moved between nearby rollers, pressers, stampers, engravers, case makers, jewel mounters, setters and polishers. The purpose-built works along Vittoria Street used extensive windows to bring daylight to this precise work.

Today, Enamel Works contains four private apartments at one historic address. Groups can enquire about coordinating several apartments, allowing friends, relatives or colleagues to stay close while retaining their own kitchens and living spaces, subject to simultaneous availability.
