Carlsbad By The Sea Hotel

"Overall we had a good stay at the Carlsbad by the Sea. The location was convenient being that we were going to Legoland. The food hall next door and the outlets shopping across the street made everything convenient. A few downside were our room was on the highway side and there was a constant hum. The resort was undergoing renovations, so parking was not super convenient and at the time the guest laundry was closed. Housekeeping does not come everyday, which is totally understandable, but the floors were obviously not swept or vacuumed well. we could feel crumbs/dirt on parts and could see cobwebs and dust bunnies near corners. Also, a bit frustrating, we chose this hotel with the understanding that it had a free shuttle to Legoland. However, a few days before the trip I looked on the hotels website and it listed that they no longer offered a shuttle. Not sure if the inaccuracy is hotels.com fault of the hotel itself."

"Walls and ceiling are pretty thin. We stayed at a hotel just days prior to this visit and we could not hear the family next to us at all.at the Hilton we could hear just about every cough, and muffled conversations. Above you could hear many of the foot steps as they ran and shuffled around the room."

"We chose this hotel primarily because of its location near LEGOLAND, and we were very pleased with our stay. We were looking for a hotel that was affordable, safe, and family friendly, and this Best Western exceeded our expectations. While we would have loved to stay onsite at LEGOLAND, we were also visiting other attractions in the area and needed a more versatile location. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and felt safe throughout our stay. I would happily recommend it to any family looking for a reliable, comfortable, and budget friendly hotel in the area. One highlight was the complimentary breakfast. I have a picky 7 year old, and even he was happy with the options available. He especially loved making his own waffles. The breakfast also included sausage links, scrambled eggs, and seasoned potatoes. There were plenty of simple, kid friendly choices while still offering satisfying options for adults.The pool was another great feature and gave the kids a chance to burn off some energy before bedtime. I also appreciated the guest laundry, which was very convenient for families traveling with children. While I wish it opened earlier in the morning, the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. were still helpful. One thing that stood out was the hotel's overall cleanliness. Located next to a La Quinta, the difference in appearance and upkeep was noticeable. Best Western looked cleaner, better maintained, and felt safer."

"Bathtub not cleaned properly. There was still a hair left on the bathtub rim. I didn’t like timeshare trying to give me a “welcome package” after my check in. Have to pay $1 to shoot pool. Didn’t have cash on hand and the employees in the activity room said i would have to go to the ATM machine in the lobby. It was a pretty sad activity room. Resort fees should be waived in that case. Splash pad is a little run down. Some things weren’t working. Needs a face lift. Would I come back? Nope. Not enough “free” amenities for me to bring back my kids."

"I will start with the room. The beds were so comfortable. You just sink into the bed and comfortable pillows. Everything was clean plenty of towels plenty of hot water, milk and cookies between eight and nine every night which is so cool. The pool was great, but there is no hot tub. Breakfast was good as well. Great location right off the highway. The restaurant has been closed for two years, but there is a gas station in the same parking lot so that made it a little convenient for gas but plenty of places to eat around that area in a short distance! Very homey feeling! We will definitely be back! 10 out of 10 recommend!"
