"Without a doubt Calhetas best place to stay and eat. Small boutique hotel with high quality food, service, rooms/ houses and a cliff top location second to none. Staff provide attentive but not obtrusive service. Really lovely place to stay. Imagine sitting amidst the vines, fruit veg and flower garden by the lavender edged pool watching the sunset with wine from their own vines before sampling their Michelin type taster menu. "We had a wonderful time here and can’t wait to go back! We spent 5 days here as part of our honeymoon and loved it. We spent our mornings out on tours and the hotel packed lunches for us to take with, and our afternoon by the pool sipping sangria. Can’t go wrong with that! It’s a very small resort but it made it that much better - laid back, quiet, good selection of food options for me that were gluten free, and friendly staff "

"A 5 star hotel this is not but a quaint and beautiful place to stay, with unbeatable views, it most certainty is. Nelson is absolutely second to none in the host stakes; a font of local information and recommendations for places to go, shop, eat like a local and enjoy every minute in Madeira.Calhetta is a great base to explore the island from. With a car, you can go anywhere; we went to Funchal and the main attractions there, up over the top of the island to the pools in Porto Moniz and intonthe interior to visitvthe Lavadas.If youre coming to Madeira you know (hopefully) that there's lots of walking and none of it is easy going. The slopes are steep and the steps go on and on so be prepared. For all that, and the 100 or so steps to and from your front door at Viewpoint House, this was an experience not to be missed.Thank you Nelson, for hosting us and your unquestionable generosity and kindness. "Amazing property with gorgeous sunset views! It was a very large house compared to our other VRBO’s on Portugal’s mainland. We really appreciated the host’s hospitality! The driveway is steep and narrow, which was intimidating at first, but we got the hang of it!"
