Cork (ORK) to Faro (FAO)
8.4/10 Very good! (561 reviews)
The room was clean and spacious but a little dated. There was a waterproof sheet underneath the main sheet which was a little uncomfortable to sleep on as it kept wrinkling up in the night.
The room had a kitchenette but no plates or cutlery and only tiny tea cups so we had to ask for these. It was nice to have a fridge and kettle though.
The staff were mostly really friendly and helpful.
The pool and surrounding area was nice but lots of seagulls flocked around there and frequently pooed in it so we’re not sure not clean it was. We both ended up with bad colds after a couple of days of swimming in the pool so we expect it wasn’t very hygienic.
The sauna was very cold and therefore not a proper sauna.
The gym on the other hand had no air conditioning and was really hot and felt quite dirty.
We had a couples massage at the spa which was lovely and very reasonably priced. We also got given recommendations for local restaurants - Tasca 26, Quirinos and Olivalmar were all really good. The dinner buffet at the hotel was basic and rather disappointing.
The beaches nearby were nice but you do have to walk to them. There is a cool tunnel in the rock to walk through from the closest beach to the next one and that is a nicer beach to swim from.
Overall, it was a satisfactory hotel but not as nice as the photos or description implies.

8.8/10 Excellent! (45 reviews)
Beautiful hotel, but in a very busy area. I will say the breakfast was awful. Not to our taste. No change in options from day to day. The views from the Monica collection was spectacular. There is a fabulous restaurant on the beach called the beach cafe that provided romantic, delicious meals in the evening. Overall we had a nice stay

Loved the property! Note fridge was set to a very low level, which I didn't realize right away. Check this if you want cold fridge or to make ice.

"Staff were wonderful — very friendly and helpful with recommendations and tour bookings. The rooms were incredibly spacious, with large comfortable beds and excellent water pressure in the shower. Pool area was great - always seemed to be loungers available and there’s a shallow, separate section ..."

"I wasn’t sure what to expect but a bit of a gem right in the middle of town. Its not the Ritz but clean, comfortable, everything worked and, despite quite old, well maintained. Breakfast was well worth €10. For a 2- nighter for hiking, it was absolutely fine."
