BLUE SPRUCE COTTAGE - Modern Lake House w/ shared Frontage on Thayer Lake
10/10 Excellent
"Clean and Cute cottage! Totally remodeled. Check-in and check-out were easy. Helpful binder in the cottage with information about the cottage, nearby attractions and restaurants. Binder also included wi-fi info. Hot tube was a nice bonus, there was a fire pit with Adirondack chairs at each cottage along with a cute firewood station with a wagon to purchase firewood. Picnic table on patio and sun shade. Thayer Lake is at the rear of the property and has a sandy area to enter lake, docks and is beautiful. The cottage had all the little necessities garbage bags, laundry detergent, hand soap at each sink, a few rolls of toilet paper for each bathroom, paper towels, dish towels, sponge, salt, pepper and olive oil, shampoo and conditioner and plenty of bath towels. We loved hearing the ELK bugle to one another on the other side of the lake! We highly recommend Thayer Lake cottages!"
New - Peaceful 4-bed getaway across from Clam Lake
10/10 Excellent
"We had a wonderful stay at this VRBO. My family really enjoyed ourselves and it was very dog friendly. Sue was quick to respond to any questions and address any needs. I only scored 4 on cleanliness because the front porch and back patio could use a scrubbing, and maybe some flowers to add some color. I would have liked to have a better view of Clam Lake so that is why I only gave it 4 stars for location. But access to Dockside and pontoon rentals was super convenient. And a quick drive to access Torch Lake swimming. I would also recommend some new bed sheets that are not jersey knit. They were a little warm for sleeping in for July. Overall we had a wonderful stay and I would recommend this property."
Torch lake waterfront:100 ft of sandy beach, 3-bedroom, 3-bath cottage
8/10 Good
"We recently stayed at this Torch Lake home with a group of nine — including my wife, our infant daughter, our dog, and extended family — and had a fantastic time. The property is tucked away in the woods, offering a quiet, peaceful atmosphere while still being right on the water — exactly what we were looking for.The home is older but very clean and well-maintained, with plenty of space and beds for everyone in our group to feel comfortable. The beachfront access and private dock were hands-down the best features. Being able to go for a swim, sit on the deck, or watch the sunset over the lake whenever we pleased was incredible. The s’mores bag waiting for us at check-in was a great personal touch. The surrounding Alden area is always charming, with great local shops, restaurants, and bars nearby. The house was stocked with helpful amenities, and the host was extremely responsive and accommodating throughout the stay.A few things to note: the house interior is a bit dated, and there's no A/C, which might be worth considering depending on the time of year. Also, the spiral staircase — while unique — was a bit tricky for both little ones and older adults. The checkout instructions were fairly detailed, especially regarding laundry, so just be sure to plan a little extra time on your departure day. That said, we’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a true lakefront experience. With some minor modern updates over time, this spot will continue to be a gem."
