The forested Appalachian Mountains, cultural attractions and scenic waterways of Eastern Kentucky combine to create an inspiring and energizing destination.

Eastern Kentucky is split into the two regions of the Kentucky Appalachians in the north and Daniel Boone Country in the south. Together, they offer a mixture of stunning scenery, outdoor adventure and proudly held local traditions. Discover musical legacies, artistic achievements and gorgeous state parks in one of the most colorful and beautiful parts of the state.

Follow the story of the region in Knox Historical Museum or Cumberland Gap National Park, which document the heritage of the area. Learn about the different waves of people who have lived here, from Native Americans, to pioneers to military groups.

Roam through the forests and trails of the Kentucky Appalachians. This corner of the state is home to breathtaking natural landmarks such as Broke Leg Falls and Red River Gorge. Trek across the ridge of Pine Mountain on a trail that runs for 120 miles (193 kilometers). Go underground in Carter Caves State Resort Park, which features over 20 caverns.

Sample Kentucky culture in the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center and the Kentucky Folk Arts Center. The U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Museum is dedicated to the unique sound of the Appalachians.

Escape to Daniel Boone Country, home to the cascades of Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. Experience the thrill of kayaking along the waterways that run through Daniel Boone National Forest or on the trails of Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Park.

This region also offers several museums and galleries. Tap your toes to the sounds of the state in the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Swift Creek Arts and Crafts Gallery in Campton displays the work of local artists from the region and runs hands-on crafts classes.

Fly to Blue Grass Airport in Lexington for quick access to the mountains and scenic byways of Eastern Kentucky. One of the joys of visiting Eastern Kentucky is watching the distinct turning of seasons. Watch the foliage change color in spring and fall, hike on sunny days throughout summer and seek out a cozy cabin in the colder winter months.
