Room looks a little dated, but other than that nothing was wrong with it. The beds are very good, breakfast was equally very good. Christmas market just about 2 or 3 blocks down. Good value for money !

Holiday Inn Essen

An excellent central base for travelling to Dortmund, Dusseldorf and Cologne. Hotel was decent and had a nice breakfast.

Clean room, matching the pictures and description. However in need of renovation - broken drawer, some cracks on the bathroom tiles etc. Nothing big enough to be upset about, but somewhat sub-par for a Holiday Inn. On the upside - amazing breakfast!

Arrived by car to find parking area was closed due to building work, no mention of this on website during booking, parking was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel ,very difficult to find a park, receptionist Eda was rude and patronising, our room was fine but had a loose toilet seat and bed was only prepared for one person not 2, Roberto in the lounge bar was very nice and the bruschetta was very tasty, breakfast was excellent but hotel was overpriced at almost 150 euro per night.

We were a late booking. The hotel upgraded us free of charge as they could not accommodate us closely otherwise as a family. Rooms dated but front of house excellent. Breakfast was first class. £36 for a family of 5. Kids loved the waffle and automatic pancake maker. They accommodated for my wife who is caeliac immediately when informed. We would stay again. Great staff

Nice enough, very average. Is a bit tired decor and could do with a refresh, but that didnt really bother me - it was also cheap. Only minor issue was it happened to be 30 degrees in Essen and the hotel doesnt have air conditioning, so it was a bit warm overnight.

Chose the hotel due to its location good to U-Bahn (U11) Berliner Platz. Hotel instead was fine and the breakfast was a splendid choice of dishes. Room was large albeit slightly dated but in general was very clean and comfortable. Would I stay again, yes.

We stayed here for the second time and everything is going worse this year : water temperature in the shower is unstable, towels are so worn so they have holes, walls are dirty, desinfection odor everywhere is terrible. Breakfast is good. So we won't come back.

Our room was next to a door that split the hallway. This door made a lot of noise when it closed. We were woken up multiple times in the night because of people opening and closing the door. Needs something so that the door closes more slowly/quietly. Windows weren't well insulated so lot of noise from outside as well. Breakfast area was not big enough for the amount of people. Was chaotic. Would not stay here again.

Terrible night at ESSEN.

The heating on the room was to intense (in all hotel actually). Even shutting the termostat there was still hot air incoming. I asked the reception to fixe it but they couldn't. I had to sleep with an open window earing the trafic. There was a water escape from the WC. A waste (and a noisy one). To expensive and unconfortable.

Facility does not have AC in all rooms and no restaurant although it advertises it does. Carpets are dirty and stained, curtains ripped. Towels extremely small and thin. They kept on lying saying restaurant will open the following day but never did and also lied about central AC which they don’t have. Bathroom and room smelled bad and floor in bathroom still showed iron stained from prior guest. Simply disgusting.

Our recent stay at the Holiday Inn in Essen was very disappointing. The hotel desperately needs an upgrade. We booked a room for two but were given one set of amenities. When we asked about the second set, we were told it was in the closet. All we found was an extra blanket, which was useless in the 34-degree heat with no air conditioning. We needed another set of towels! Moreover, the bathroom trash can hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests and was filled with bloody tissues. This level of cleanliness is unacceptable. The staff noted our complaints at check-out, but that doesn't excuse the poor experience. We won't be staying here again. Next time, we'll find somewhere else.
