Tuscan Farmhouse in Hills w/Stunning Views - Private Pool, near Barga

This truly gorgeous and well-maintained property is located in the scenic and secluded Tuscan countryside just north of Lucca. The house and pool are completely private and for exclusive use of the house guests. Lovingly restored from a rustic barn, the home is bright and cheerful, and has updated and modern amenities including WIFI, a printer and an HD TV screen. The highlights of this property include 3 bedrooms each with their own private bath, an outdoor pool with beautiful mountain views, a living room with cozy fireplace, a modern kitchen with laundry, range and dishwasher, a powder room on the gathering level, and several scenic outdoor terraces for dining and relaxing while breathing in the fresh mountain air. All bedrooms have windows and french doors that open out onto the property, with the third bedroom walking directly out onto the garden and pool area. Meticulously designed and built in 2013 by a husband and wife, the home contains many handcrafted details throughout, including the doors, windows and kitchen cabinets. Local arrangements can be made for additional activities like hiking, day-trips, a private chef, hot air ballooning and more. Just a short drive to the beaches and mountains, 20 minutes from Barga, 50 minutes from Lucca, and 1 hour and 45 minutes from Florence - the property provides for a multitude of activities or day trips, balanced with the privacy of a calm, restful retreat. This area of Tuscany is authentically untouched, yet close enough to many tourist areas. This property truly gives you the rustic charm of the Tuscan region.

Although showing as a new 2018 listing, this property is very highly rated and was previously published under a separate Owners Direct UK listing.

Impeccably presented and cared for Tuscan property ideally located with stunning views
5 of 5
A lovely and very warm welcome by Geran on arrival, even though we arrived much later into the evening than expected; we also really appreciated the provisions (including a nice cold bottle of wine!) to get us going.

The property is extremely well designed, perfectly and appointed, including ensuites with showers in every bedroom. We loved the large amount of cool and comfortable space including the multiple outside areas to sit or eat, in or out of the sun ..... not to mention the fabulous and well maintained pool.

The location was ideal for our holiday - it's very close to good amenities, lovely towns and villages and even though we had a rental (essential) direct and regular (and cheap) rail services to all the major centres; we parked the car free at nearby stations and enjoyed completely hassle free (air conditioned) travel without any parking problems at the other end.

Eating lovely food and enjoying all the classic Italian treats is easy and one is really spoilt for choice, especially when kindly provided with top local recommendations by Geran.

Now, the views - simply fantastic - it was easy to spend hours simply soaking it up and enjoying the constantly changing light, colours, sounds and wildlife (large deer and boar) - the farmhouse is completely secluded so it feels as if the view is all yours.

All-in-all, we had a fabulous and relaxing holiday in a lovely location, fab property lovingly restored and cared for by a helpful, warm and lovely owner.

Thanks Geran

TRANQUIL TUSCANY
5 of 5
A check in the dictionary showed that La Capanna translates as “The Hut.” Well this was anything but. A spacious, comfortable cottage with every amenity provided was what we enjoyed. The first drive up to the cottage was a little hair-raising but as our generous host Geran pointed out “you soon get used to it” and we did!

The views were tremendous, the pool a welcome respite from the Tuscan sun, the Prosecco an absolute must to complete halcyon days. Geran’s home made-bread a treat relished by everyone.

We cannot recommend this ‘hut’ too highly. A place of quiet, solitude and comfort in which to relax, except on Sundays when the church bells ring from morn to dusk, but when an extra dose of Prosecco is the ideal antidote.

Owner's Response: It is an absolute joy to me when I receive comments such as these, I did not ask my guests to write a review but it underlines the thoughts I have about the property and there is nothing more rewarding than helping people enjoy their holiday.

Tuscan beauty
5 of 5
A beautiful cottage in peaceful northern Tuscany. The cottage is to a very high standard, is well equipped and very comfortable with everything that you will need for you holiday supplied.

The pool is a wonderful retreat to beat the heat and there are plenty of outdoor areas to enjoy the wonderful views.

There are numerous excellent restaurants in Barga which is a short drive away, and a supermarket not far away which also sells excellent gelato! The drive to the cottage is a little scary the first time you do it but easily negotiable.

Highly recommend. Friendly and welcoming hosts. My husband would move there tomorrow if he could!

Up in the Tuscan Hills
5 of 5
After winding our way up the road with some hairpin bends we arrived at La Capana. We managed the rather steep drive to the charming country house and were greeted by kind friends of the owner. After we settled in we found freshly made bread and homemade biscuits. The bedrooms with ensuites were spacious, clean and comfortable facing gorgeous views over the valley with snow capped mountains in the distance. Apart from one morning it was a bit cold for swimming but we basked on the sunny terrace instead. At night we enjoyed the log fire. My sister attempted Italian with a friendly farm worker while my brother-in-law was trying to find words in the dictionary and doing mad signing. The Italian sold us some wine and complimented me on looking a year younger than I am (classified retirement age) that I found very funny. We walked to the top of the hill to Trepignana picking wild herbs growing by the road on the way home. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble with the garden as well as lots of little touches such as straw hats, folding chairs and table for the terraces and well equipped kitchen - not over the top but quite adequate for the guests' needs. Loved being there and thoroughly recommend it. Value for money as well.

Tranquility in Tuscany
4 of 5
A lovely 3 bedroom cottage, all bedrooms en suite, good bathrooms and comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen and dining area. Superbly comfortable lounge with fireplace. It was cold in early May so we had fires in the evening. Cosy. The area in gastronomically great with many good restaurants within easy striking distance. Also some nice walks - be prepared for hills. A wonderful week's break, thanks Geran.

Had a wonderful week's holiday. The villa was perfect - the photographs don't do it justice. After a week in Florence this quieter corner of Tuscany was ideal. Geran made us very welcome.

Stunning villa in stunning countryside
Beautiful old farmhouse that has been lovingly restored to a very high standard, and filled with lovely furniture and artwork. Several seating areas outside and a veranda where you can sit and look out over the fabulous view of the valley and mountains beyond. Thanks very much to Hennie, our host, for being on hand to help with arrival and departure and any questions we had. We would highly recommend the villa.

Beautiful house
I loved the house, a clasical italian one. Stunning view over the hills and valey. We loved to sit on the terrace. Due to many stairs, large pool and some wasps around I’d rather advise it for families with bigger kids (our were 6 and 9). You need to be prepared for ants, wasps, mosquitos and some scorpions, but it’s due to beautifull nature all around. No houses in direct neighbourhood. You will quickly get used to the narrow winding road, but be carefull because the locals drive bravely. Castelnuovo is about 15 min by car, there one can do shoping, eat gelato and have a nice walk. The local host, Hennie, is very nice and helpful. You can make an appointment with her in advance for a delicious meal. Down the road there is a good pizzeria. For pizza we also advise Pizzeria l'isola di Coppola in Castelnuovo. Some good local food and steaks you will find in Osteria al Ritrovo del Platano.

Stunning
We stayed for two weeks at the end of August, 2018. We were looked after by the property manager, Geran, who was incredibly helpful, and guided us on where to go and what to see. Our stay would not have been nearly as good without her help, so thank you! As for the owners, very approachable and helpful. Response times to emails very quick. The villa is situated in the hills overlooking Gallicano and the mountains on the other side of the valley. The view is incredible. The villa itself is a spacious 3 bedroomed converted stone built barn that is very nicely appointed. Has everything you need and very comfortable, Being stone meant that despite the hot weather, up to high 30s, the building itself stays pretty cool. This is useful as there is no air con, but it really isn’t needed and there are fans if some coolng really is required. The pool is large enough, and although solar heated, pretty warm when we went. Had more trouble keeping the kids out of the pool than anything else. They loved it. We spend quite a lot of our time seeing Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Barga. All beautiful and worth visiting. For this, we hired a car, and this is essential, but it’s worth mentioning that the mountain roads are narrow and winding, so you want to be confident and comfortable driving in Europe, I would love to see this place in winter as ski fields are quite close, but the drive to the villa might be interesting! For the mundane side of things, there is a big supermarket close by for day to day stuff, and plenty of options further afield.

A wonderful property in a beautiful area.
The property is very comfortable and well equipped. The pool is a good size enabling one to have proper exercise. The area is very attractive and sparsely populated but there are good restaurants not too far away. In short, an ideal place in which to holiday.

Tuscany Farmhouse.
This farmhouse situated in the beautiful Apenau Mountains (part of the Appennines) is absolutely charming. It is rustic but beautifully decorated and with all modern conveniences. It is a serene setting perfect for relaxing and forgetting our hectic world. The little hill towns in the surrounding area are quaint, picturesque and inviting. The nearby city of Lucca is a medieval marvel with a well preserved city wall. But the shopping is all 21st century. We loved our stay and hope to come back.

Great house in Toscane
Great house for vacation when you like the quite and peaceful surroundings of the Tuscany mountains. Great bedrooms with doors to the garden and the pool. Enough space for 6 adults. We were with 4 adults. Everything you need is available. Maybe a few more towels would be nice. Overall a great stay.
