Fuerteventura Holiday Guide

Fuerteventura one of the the largest of the Canary Islands, located just west of Morocco, and is well known for incredible beaches and excellent surfing. Enjoy the pleasant ocean breeze and relax on pristine stretches of white sand on this island of scenic parks and dunes. Visit the town of Corralejo, with its nature reserves and selection of water sports, ranging from diving to kite surfing.

To many, Fuerteventura is known as “the island of eternal spring” in recognition of its persistently pleasant climate year-round. It enjoys little to no rain in the summer, with only a few wet days between October and March.

Travel to Corralejo, appreciate its charming streets and alleys and dine in its delectable restaurants and cafés. Feed that shopaholic in you and pick up a souvenir a one of the many boutique shops. Just outside the town centre you’ll find miles of sand dunes in the Corralejo National Park. Stroll across the sand at your leisure, enjoy the scenery and forget the worries back home.

When you really feel like it’s time to chill, get yourself a lounger and sunbathe on Corralejo Beach. Or choose from the countess other beaches on the island, such as Cotillo Beach and Sotavento de Jania Beach. These serene beaches, with their sapphire blue seas, have very few buildings to interfere with nature on the great, sprawling areas of sand.

The island’s name developed from the Spanish term for “strong winds,” which explains its pull for windsurfers. Take your board out on the rough water and enjoy the view of the island’s rugged coastline.

For a change of scenery, head to Ajuy Beach, with its black sand formed from a volcanic eruption. Its yellow rocks combine well with the blue sea and sky for otherworldly photo opportunities. Explore caves and beautiful rock formations next to the beach.

The local language is Spanish, dating back to the island’s colonization many centuries ago. English is also widely spoken around the resorts and attractions.

To reach the island, get a flight to Fuerteventura Airport in the El Matorral area on the east coast. Take a shuttle bus from the airport to your desired destination. Corralejo is 24 miles (39 kilometers) north, which will take about 30 minutes in a taxi.

Choose Fuerteventura for a relaxing holiday with the family on white, sandy beaches surrounded by picturesque sand dunes and parks.

Q: Should I book a car while on holiday in Fuerteventura?

A: If you're going to be in the centre of Puerto del Rosario or La Oliva for a couple of days, perhaps not. But if you're going to stay longer and plan to venture out into the region of Las Palmas or farther afield, go for it. Nothing beats the freedom you get with your own wheels. With a little help from our guide to Cheap Car Hire in Fuerteventura, finding a ride is a piece of cake.

Q: Which airports can I fly in to for a holiday to Fuerteventura?

A: Your stay in Fuerteventura will most probably begin by touching down into Puerto del Rosario Airport (FUE-Fuerteventura). This major airport operates 753 international flights every month.

Q: What are the most popular types of hotels for a holiday to Fuerteventura?

A: Pack your bags and stay at one of the leading apartments. They're one of the most common hotel types. Hotels, villas and all-inclusive hotels are also readily available here.

Q: What does a holiday booking with Expedia include?

A: Attractions and activities in the vicinity? Check. Airfares? Yep. A classy set of wheels? Of course. And at the end of a day of travelling, you'll want a comfortable room where you can lay down your weary head. We've got them all covered. Book what you need and get set for a fabulous adventure.

Q: What is the best way to save money on my holiday to Fuerteventura?

A: One of the simplest ways to save money is to bundle your bookings with the help of Expedia. Flights, Hotels and Car Rentals can be combined into a personalized holiday package — doing this will save you precious time as well. Keep this in mind before making your booking.

Q: What are the best things to do in Fuerteventura?

A: If Puerto del Rosario features in your travel plans, you have options galore. The most frequented include Alcogida Eco Museum, Chica Beach and Maxopadel — head to these to understand why.

There's adventure for everyone during your stay in La Oliva — get your skates on and head to El Toston Castle, La Concha Beach and Montaña de Tindaya.

And if your final stop is Pajara, we'd recommend making time for Matorral Beach, Morro Jable Shopping Centre and Cesar Crespo Golf Acadmy.

Stayed here for four days in January. We were fortunate with the weather. The hotel is on a beautiful beach, there isn't too much around it. Check in wasn't as good as some other Iberostar's of this rating I've stayed at, a little surly and abrupt. Like checking into a Premier Inn. They don't make ...

Couldn’t fault this place. Lovely spacious accommodation. Clean and loads of amenities. Beach a very short walk. Friendly staff. It was my birthday while I was there and found a lovely treat when I got back to the room after a day out. I would definitely go back again.
