Beautiful location, lovely breakfasting room and public interiors. Very tasteful. Very good outside areas too even though the actual outside area was quite compact . It worked. The room was tastefully done and quiet, however the ensuite was rather small, beside the fields. Lots of wildlife. The only point I would make is that the dustbin lorry stopped then went right past my window at 6am. as did an early delivery. Luckily I was already awake . Breakfast was lovely. Everything was spotless and good quality. Staff on hand to help.
Would stay there again . Overall, a find!
We had the most wonderful stay and truly couldn’t find anything to fault. The breakfast was delicious, facilities stunning and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Had such a lovely stay at Cartmel Old Grammar, a great location close to the village with gorgeous views of the racecourse and beautiful rooms. The breakfast is particularly good.
Lauren is such a fabulous host and made our anniversary weekend very special. We will definitely be back.
A Beautiful Stay in the Heart of Cartmel
We had such a wonderful stay at the Cartmel Old Grammar Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff couldn’t have been more friendly, welcoming, and genuinely lovely — they made us feel completely at home.
The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and immaculately finished, with thoughtful touches throughout. With some really lovely communal spaces to get to know other guests and not feel tucked away in your room all day. It strikes the perfect balance between character and contemporary comfort. Set in a peaceful, scenic spot, it’s an ideal base for exploring the charming village of Cartmel.
Speaking of which, the location couldn’t be better. It’s just a stone’s throw from the incredible L’Enclume, which was a real highlight of our trip, and the village itself is full of character, with a surprising number of independent shops, cosy pubs, and pretty streets to wander.
We left feeling relaxed, well looked after. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and stylish retreat in a truly beautiful corner of the Lakes.
We had the most wonderful stay at Cartmel Old Grammar Country House and cannot recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the fabulous owners, Lauren and Greg, whose passion and care for this historic gem shine through in every thoughtful detail.
The rooms were beautifully appointed—comfortable, stylish, and full of character. Every space radiated charm and tranquillity. The food was absolutely delicious—thoughtfully prepared, locally inspired, and served with genuine warmth.
Special thanks to Connor and Esther, who were attentive, friendly, and made us feel like old friends. Their hospitality added so much to our experience.
Evenings were especially magical—sipping cocktails at sunset on the terrace, followed by nightcaps in the cosy Whisky Room, made for the perfect end to each day.
The location is also fantastic—peaceful and scenic, yet just a short stroll from the heart of Cartmel village, including the world-class Michelin-starred restaurants, L’Enclume and Rogan & Co. It truly is the best of all worlds.
The serene ambience of the house, the incredible hospitality, and the charm of Cartmel made our stay unforgettable. We can’t wait to return!
Superb hotel. Perfect location at the edges of Cartmel. Decent sized rooms and a big building for the number of rooms so lots of space. Breakfast was really great - lots of choices including some unusual options (e.g courgette fritters) all cooked beautifully.
