A nice stay in Gronnigen
Stayed here with my tour group the night of October 8. The main building of the hotel is over 300 years old, and this hotel screams character. Some of the stairs are quite steep, but have no fear, they have elevators. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms felt a bit spartan but were very comfortable. Bathroom had a tub and a seperate shower stall. The fixtures reminded me of my grandmothers home. The breakfast was very good and well worth the price. If I were to travel to Gronnigen I would stay here again. Lots of places to eat nearby if you dont want to dine at the hotel. Underground parking is a short walk from the hotel.

The primary reason for my negative review is the fact the hotel was suppose to refund the first night of my stay due to the Train Stoppage in Amsterdam making it IMPOSSIBLE to go from Amsterdam to Groningen. I spoke with an agent and they advised me I would get credit for the first night. This did not happen. They lied. Even Expedia could not assist me. Everytime we tried to reach someone at the hotel, that person was not it.

Cleanliness was excellent, service was exceptional as was the food. Only problem that I had was the stairs, which were steeper than we are used to in the UK, and the steps were shallower. No problem going up but had to be really careful coming back down. This was obviously due to the age of the building, so wouldn't change a thing.

This hotel is old and beautiful. The rooms are large and clean, with classic furniture. We had a wonderful stay!

Very unique property built out of an old estate home, with all of the rooms being individually decorated and shaped differently adds a lot of character to the place. We enjoyed our time spent here and although the COVID restrictions meant that certain amenities were not available, the staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again as it was very centrally located and provided easy access to walking around all of Groningen.

As good as always
This was our third time at Schimmelpenninck, so needless to say we love it here! Breakfast was as delicious as we remembered it, Jacuzzi as relaxing as we remembered it. We did notice that here and there, over the years, the hotel could do with a few touch-ups (lick of paint, tightening a few screws in the furniture, perhaps new pillows - all little things). We'll definitely stay here again. It's amazing how quiet the hotel is, even if it's on a busy street. It's a great location for shopping, dining and close to the station and the fabulous Groninger museum.

Old Charme in great location, great people
The Hotel is a classic, and all personel very helpful and friendly. Only downside is that they messed up my laundry(badly) What was worse though, despite promising that "Management would contact me" about my ruined items, no one bothered. Very disappointing that they have not yet (1 month later)

A favourite
Charming and even the smallest room is super comfortable. Lovely courtyard and bar area. Didn’t have time to try the restaurant but it seemed very popular. Independent and has everything and more no big chain could provide with a quarter of the charm and atmosphere.

Have stayed here many times before, great old place with real character, good food and some great rooms.Friendly, helpful staff and nice food. Always try to book this hotel when I stay in Groningen.

very shabby chic! room 8 should be banned!
Please do not accept room 8, especially as i paid for a deluxe room........it is awful like a jail. there are better rooms in external annex building. The hotel decor is shabby chic......but to be honest it is very much more shabby! tv in room 8 is from 1980 and does not work either! why is it still there gathering dust? On the plus side breakfast room is great with plenty of vert tasty crosiants and breads as well as sausages etc. this was very good! Location is very central for restaurants in the city too!

Right in the hearth of Groningen. I was very well received, the receptionist explained where I could park my car and even took my luggage to my room as steep stairs. All were very friendly and helpful.

Taste the history
Always a pleasure to stay in the Schimmelpenninck Huys, the hotel breathes the rich history it has seen in the past decades and everywhere is something to see which makes it worthwhile to wander around in the hotel. Although not part of the hotel, the "kelder bar" (cellar bar) is cosy and intimate and is certainly worth a visit after a night out or long business day before you hop into your comfortable hotel bed.

Traditional hotel in a noisy city
The hotel gave me the wrong entrance code of the parking lot and when i called the hotel I got a standard message. So i had to wait till one of the other cars drove in and i could follow. The second day in my part of the hotel the WiFi was not working. At first they did not want to take action until more people were going to complain about it. On the positive site: the chef made me daily an excellent omelette and the bar has no closing time.

Character hotel in the middle of Groningen
Friendly and helpful staff. This place has a lot of character! The downside for me on this visit was the room - although clean and very spacious, faced a back wall so was permanently dark with hardly any natural light. Since it was August, it was very warm with hardly any fresh air coming through the narrow window and no air-con. A fan was provided and this helped a little. Otherwise we loved the hotel- it is full of character and very Dutch! I would stay here again , and ask for a differently located room!

Noise high st, with no AC
the hotel was on a noise high st and since there are no AC in the rooms, we werent able to close the windows, so it was hard to get a good night sleep.

My wife and I stayed for two nights and had a good room. I had booked another two nights for my wife alone, as I had to go somewhere else; she was put into a tiny, miserable room, like the cleaners' cupboard, although the rate was the same as we paid for the double (and only one breakfast!)

Gem of a hotel close to town centre
This a lovely, quirky traditional hotel, with well furnished and comfortable rooms. The staff are very helpful and the breakfast each môrning is delicious, especially with the hotels home baked bread from its inhouse bakery. I would highly recommend the hotel for a comfortable and relaxing break.
