"Great building. Lovely room. Eat in the restaurant and the steak was really over cooked. I really should have sent it back. We had breakfast the following day - full English. The fried egg was hard and the field mushroom was very over-done"

"Room was spacious. Carpet stained and windows showing wear and tear but overall fine for one night stay given the price which was good value. More toiletries in bathroom would have been welcomed as only one soap dispenser for sink and shower area supplied. Bathroom was spacious and plenty of fluffy towels. The evening meal was tasty, well priced and delicious Choice for breakfast was fine.Set in nice garden area. Good bar area as well. Excellent service from all staff."

"Our host was very helpful, communication was quick and informative. We enjoyed our stay at Vacant Nests, Seaham. The premises was fully equipped and bedding and towels were also provided. The location was close to bus stops which we used a lot. Our grandchildren travelled free as it was summer holidays. All told it was a good holiday."

"We had a lovely stay at the cottage, which was well equipped with everything we needed.Our overall impression was very positive. The attention to detail and decorative touches made the cottage feel warm and homely. The downstairs rooms are spacious, and the layout good.The location is great. It's situated with cities, retail parks, and major attractions all within a short drive, while still being in a town surrounded by fields and public footpaths—ideal for dog walking.There were just a few minor drawbacks. Although mentioned in the listing, the lack of an enclosed outdoor space meant having to get dressed to take our dog out early each morning, which wasn't ideal when on holiday! The cottage is also located on a busy road, and many drivers ignored the 30mph speed limit & traffic noise could be loud. We stayed during a warm spell & had the windows open during the day, but needed to close them at night to avoid being disturbed. As 2 of the 3 bedrooms are at the front, they became warm overnight as a result.Our only other niggle was with the bathrooms. While it's good to have the option of a bath, the only shower is in the smaller bathroom. Adding a shower over the bath in the main bathroom would be a relatively inexpensive improvement. Even with just 3 of us staying, there was a queue for the shower each morning.Overall though, these are fairly minor points and don't detract from what was a very enjoyable stay."

"Beautiful hotel and grounds. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The ability to use the pool and spa were a wonderful added bonus. Staff were really helpful with regards to travel into Durham, helping with park and ride and taxis and also where to eat. Restaurant was charming and relaxing. The only thing that let it down was the noise. As our room was ground floor and backed out into gardens also accessed by the bar/restaurant, the noise levels kept me awake late at night with other guests enjoying their time on the garden. Could invest in sound-proofing/triple glazing maybe and then it would be a definite 5 star. Wonderful overall."
