    The Space:

Set among the fells, Rigg End is a 16th-century Farmhouse that pairs Nordic restraint with bold, joyful character. The kitchen and long island are made for cooking together; the days for walking it off on the surrounding hills. Outside, a hot tub and barbecue take in the rolling Dales, and the evenings settle into fire, food and easy company. Kirkby Stephen is 10 minutes away, Lake District 30. This is a house for food, fire and shared time.

The area offers stunning walks, cycling routes, and peaceful seclusion while still being close to shops, pubs, and scenic towns.

    Getting Around:

A car is highly recommended for exploring the beauty of the region.

Rigg End Farmhouse sits in the upper Eden Valley on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 10 minutes from the market town of Kirkby Stephen and 30 minutes from the Lake District. This is walking country: the smooth, green Howgill Fells, the heights of Wild Boar Fell, and Smardale Gill nature reserve with its great stone viaduct are all close, while the celebrated Settle–Carlisle railway threads dramatic scenery nearby. Sedbergh, England’s book town, and a scattering of dale villages with old stone pubs are within easy reach. Days are for the fells, the rivers and the views; evenings for the fire and the hot tub, with the Dales all around.

This stay should have been great. The house itself is huge, each of the rooms are unique and there are gorgeous views. Unfortunately, we had an issue with the hot tub being dirty and the maintenance company and host were very apologetic, but nothing was actually done about it and I have had to complain directly to VRBO. The overall cleanliness of the property wasn’t great but we could have overlooked that as it’s quite a large property so I understand how areas may have been missed. Shame as the property has great potential, just let down by the overall maintenance and lack of quick resolution.
