Outside, the private, south-easterly garden is the ideal spot to unwind, with a patio area and outdoor furniture, perfect for al fresco dining.
Mains Side is a tranquil retreat, offering the perfect base for exploring the stunning landscapes of the Eden Valley and the Yorkshire Dales. Nestled in a quiet farming village, the cottage offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Although there is no pub in the village, Kirkby Stephen is a short drive away and offers a range of shops, traditional pubs, and excellent restaurants. The area is a walker’s paradise, with trails leading from the doorstep across low fells and secluded valleys, including parts of the renowned Coast to Coast path. Cyclists will love the quiet country lanes, while nearby Smardale Nature Reserve and Sunbiggin Tarn are havens for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.
The historic Brough Castle, along with the market towns of Appleby and Penrith, are close by. Penrith also boasts the Rheged Centre, a hub for crafts, exhibitions, shopping, and a cinema. Orton’s Chocolate Factory is a sweet treat for visitors. The scenic Settle to Carlisle railway is just a short distance away, offering stunning views of the Dales and Ribblehead Viaduct.
