Marbella City Guide

Marbella is a charming resort on the Spanish Riviera where you can enjoy a luxury beach holiday on the Mediterranean, surrounded by history. Marbella is a town of less than 140,000 people, but it attracts nearly 1 million visitors each year, making it a bustling city with a lot of energy. Laze on the beach, go shopping or visit the sights in this charming tourist town on the Costa del Sol.

If you just get tired of sunbathing and swimming, why not stroll along the Paseo Maritimo, a beautiful boulevard that runs along the beach. Or sit back on one of the benches at the central fountain in the beautiful Alameda park where mosaics of local history are displayed. The diverse background and history of this area is also reflected in the many historic sites, including the Roman baths and bridges, the elegant Moorish architecture and churches from the early Christian era.

Wander through the old town, the Casco Historico, to experience traditional Spain and marvel at the beautiful town hall, built in the 16th century. Be sure to check in at the tourist office on the Plaza de los Naranjos to see what festivals are held during your stay. View works by Picasso, who was born in nearby Malaga, in the Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo and admire sculptures by Dalí along Avenida del Mar. Or do as the Spaniards themselves and ordering tapas while watching the Spanish dancers at Alameda Square.

Since the 1970’s a lot of rich and famous from all over the world have visited or even made their homes in Marbella. Stars like Sean Connery and Rod Stewart lived here, and Antonio Banderas has a villa in Marbella. Today on the Golden Mile houses the richest people in the world.

Marbella is located in Andalusia, an autonomous region in southern Spain. It has a mild climate, with warm days in the summer months, from June to August. Málaga Airport is a forty minute drive from the city. If you do not have your own transportation, then buses or official metered taxi can help you to get to and from the airport. If you do decide to rent a car, you should keep in mind that parking in Marbella is expensive.

Marbella is the jewel in the Costa del Sol. It offers an attractive combination of beautiful beaches, luxury and historic charm. All you need for an unforgettable break.
