Gorgeous romantic cottage retreat, gardens & views

Welcome to possibly the best situated cottage in the whole of the Peak District - utterly peaceful yet an easy stroll to Winster's pubs and fantastic walking trails from the doorstep. Built in 1701 out of local limestone and Grade II Listed, Lancaster Cottage oozes character and is the ideal retreat for a luxury romantic escape. Cosy fireplace & beams, huge settee & a dreamy, romantic bedroom with king-sized comfy bed with lovely views over the hills, 2 outdoor seating areas & tranquil garden.

Located in possibly the most quaint, unspoilt and friendly of the Peak District Villages, the cottage is only minutes from 2 pubs, the community-run village shop and some fantastic walking trails in all directions. Designed with cosy luxury in mind, 300 year old Lancaster Cottage is packed with original features with beautiful wooden beams throughout, unique gritstone fireplace with cosy stove burner and thick exposed stone walls, it is a wonderful haven all year round. There are 2 outside spaces including a beautiful cottage garden with fabulous views.

Maybe you want to snuggle up on the gorgeous comfy settee by the fireside or listen to the birdsong in the beautiful cottage garden with a glass of wine – the weather will help you decide!

The position is perfect – situated in a little row of cottages with a car-free frontage with outdoor seating for enjoying that morning coffee. It is utterly peaceful except for the sound of bird song and the occasional church bells. Take the secret path from the front door and you’ll find the beautiful secret garden, completely private and full of flowers, with seating and gorgeous views over open countryside. At night-time the light pollution is low so the skies are full of stars - and there is a firepit and blankets to keep you warm.

NEW FOR 2023 - Wooden cabin garden room with day beds and wonderful view of the garden - the perfect place to read a book and have an afternoon doze, with the sounds of the birds and the bees to lull you to sleep. Also the perfect spot for storm watching, or chilling on a rainy summer afternoon.

Perfect cosy cottage
This quaint little cottage is the perfect place to stay. It’s small, but so cosy and offers everything you need. The living area with its log burner, the kitchen equipped with everything you need, and a good sized bedroom with such a comfortable bed. There is nothing that I could fault about it. There is a local pub a two minute walk away, also cosy and serves good food, and just a three minute walk away a post office and shop. Would absolutely stay here again . The owner was very accommodating when we had to cancel and rebook, communications with her were fantastic and in the cottage she provided so much information on the cottage itself and all the places you can visit and details on the surrounding area. You have to stay here!!!

Cosy cottage stay
We loved our few days away staying in this cosy cottage. It was just perfect for us and the most beautiful walks on the door step. Great location, fabulous and friendly pub in the village, great village shop and the most comfortable bed I have ever stayed in! 5/5 we hope to be back!

Excellent Cottage and Location
The cottage was brilliant, very cosy and full of character. The village of Winster was lovely, the Miners Standard a 5 min walk up the road served great food and the Druids Inn a nice walk away on Birchover was also excellent. There's a bus stop a minutes walk from the cottage, 20 mins into Matlock which is worth a visit. We had a great stay!

A Pleasant Surprise
Beautiful and well-furnished cottage in a quiet area of Winster. Cosy stay-at-home or enjoy the local walks. Local pubs, Druid Inn and Red Lion, both in Birchover , are nice but for a special treat, take a short drive over to Wiirksworth and visit 'Le Mistral'. Delicious food and fantastic service. Totally relaxing break.
