The cottage has been lovingly restored to the very highest standards to include all the modern day facilities to make a stay one to never forget. It has been thoughtfully redecorated by the owners, who have put love and attention to detail into making The Wee House a real gem. With a warm inviting feel the open plan kitchen and living area enjoys a wood burner to snuggle up in front of after a day exploring, whilst the upstairs has a luxurious feel with its open, light and calming bedroom and bathroom. The area around The Wee House has the feel of a Cornish fishing village – a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. The Wee House is peaceful, quiet and has an ‘away from it all’ feel, yet it is only a short amble down the hill to the quirky boutique shops and independent eateries below. It is great for a relaxing break away or an ideal place from which to set off on adventures in the surrounding peaks; you can walk and cycle from the door.
Wirksworth offers visitors a funky independent cinema, a weekly market and a monthly farmers’ market. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient ’jitties’ and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, along with the heritage centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is great walking all around. Well dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival, and the annual September arts festival attracts international performers of every kind. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver’s Kingdom. Only two miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. Shop, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

A very Comfortable and enjoyable few days. We liked the two outside sitting areas, one in shade and the other in sun with splendid views. Although the approach was quite steep, at 81 years of age we found it perfectly manageable.

For us, Wirksworth is the place to be.
For us, Wirksworth is the place to be.
We’ve visited before and are familiar with the local cinema, but it was our first stay at The Wee House on the Hill.
What a sheer delight it is! It is full of character but with all modern conveniences, and all very tastefully furnished and decorated. There wasn’t a scuffed wall or dusty skirting board in sight!
Thoroughly recommended.

Great cottage, but not for the faint hearted, as a steep climb to get there.

If you can do the climb, the scenery is fantastic
