The Brakeman Hotel

"Overall my stay was nice and enjoyed the uniqueness of the property. I am a little surprised The Brakeman receives a 9.6 score on Expedia considering there aren’t that many amenities (no on-site pool, no restaurant, garage parking, etc.). It is quiet and a little bit tucked out of the way from the French Quarter while still being very walkable to everything. I stayed in a windowless King room which was fine and a nice size. Bathroom was also spacious and had a duel head walk-in shower. The sink did drip throughout the stay but wasn’t a huge deal, couldn’t hear it from the bed. The AC seemed to not do its job during the day as the room seemed a little warm and damp when coming back in the evenings but was remedied once the thermostat was turned down a couple degrees and stayed cool thru the night. The front desk is a little confusing as the Brakeman Hotel sign hangs over an empty reception desk and the actual one is behind and catty corner from that one. Once found, reception was friendly and let me check in at 1:00 since the room had just been cleaned. Cool lobby area connected to the trolley tour meeting area which had a gift shop and some interesting New Orleans memorabilia from the Old Basin St station that was here. So pretty solid, but more like an 8.6 overall for me. Probably try something else next time but enjoyed my stay and would tell a friend to at least check it out."

Authentic Creole Cottage - Steps to French Quarter

"Everything about this Creole Cottage was top-notch! Check-in was super easy and efficient. Only one, tiny, little snag as I was driving by-- I was searching for the photo I saw online. Be warned--that is not the street view!! Rather, the vacationer will find a green shutter with the house number on it. The unit is darling, quiet, comfy, and welcoming."

"If you are walking, it is out of the way. We used the Hop on Hop off bus system and the closest stop was 5 blocks away. With the bus service stopping at 5:30 pm we had to use Uber quite a bit. The only complaint I have with the facility is the bed is very low to the ground and the rug was a tripping hazard in my opinion."
